I've always been a fan of doberman's, and german shephards.
I've never seen either in this country. Are big dogs readily available here? I assume part of the reason I never see them is because of the urban apartment environment.
Everywhere I go I see little dogs. I hate small dogs. Anyone know the scoop on why there are so few large dogs running around? Too little space? Ban on certain breeds? |

Koreans like the Great Pyrenese
Go to naver and type Great Pyrenees breeder - in Korean - you'll see a bunch of breeders outside Seoul. |

You can get any kind of breed you want. DO NOT buy a dog from a pet store though. They are infamous for having diseases. The best way to get a large breed dog is to use the internet.
Have a Korean friend sit down with you and find a pet website. You can choose the breed and the location. It will then link you to people that are selling puppies. Usually people breed them outside of seoul and have a middle man in larger cities that you will meet up with to make the purchase.
Be careful with pure breeds though. Korean breeders are not as experienced as breeders back home and haven't really learned how to selectively breed out genetic problems.
I bought my Golden Retriever online with breeding papers for only 150, 00 won. Unfortunately he has hip dysplacia and needed expensive (2 million won) surgery when he was 5 months old. He is all good now though.
The problem with large breeds in large cities is finding a landlord that will allow you to rent an apartment. It can be done, but will be a hassle for sure.
I have a friend who is currently trying to find a home for his golden retriever. It is medium sized and VERY well trained. Send me a PM if interested. He is a little over 2 years old and very well mannered. |

I have always been of fan of those breeds as well, but would not consider having either one in this country if you live in an apartment in the city.
A: Good luck finding a building owner that would allow it.
B: Koreans tend to be afraid of larger dogs
C: well there are too many reasons
I had a Korean dog (Jindo) that was only medium sized and non aggressive. It was fine for me to have her in my previous area and apartment. Upon moving to a different area and apartment, I was not allowed to keep her in the building that my ps school secured for me, and people here were just flat out scared of her even though she is sweet and timid. Luckily for her and myself, she has gone to the country to live with a fellow teacher's family. I feel better for her being in that environment, as apposed to the stress that she was dealing with in her situation here. I do miss her though . |

Big dogs....I know what you mean. I really want to get a dog, but need to wait until living in the right place. I would never get a dog while stuck in an apartment. But, when its time....I'm getting a great dane!!! I love these dogs!!! Absolutely massive, but the most kind and affectionate dogs I have ever seen. You wouldn't think, but these dogs are absolutely amazing with kids!!
Ohhh, I can't wait.....I really miss having a dog. |

Even given their massive stature, that is not that surprising. You are right in saying that they have a gentle disposition. |
