Gasp! Apples are needlessly expensive and succeed through aggressive advertising that doesn't really explain anything about the product!? I'd better get writing! People need to know!

Thats the thing apple is not really a big success if you compare it to MS.

Ms gets a lot of flack from stupid apple. To be honest with MS products are light ages ahead of apple.

They are more stable, secure, robust, compatible, with a lot features Apple would love to wish for.

I hate those gay ass Apple commercials..

Philosophically speaking, there seem to be two kinds of people. Apple people and PC people. They both have a different set of priorities.

Apple user;
1. Style
2. function
3. price

PC user;
1. Function
2. price
3. style.

See? Reversed priorities.

I've never placed style over function. To some people though, that's important. Look at those awful, garish Prada cellphones. It's just a cellphone but it's dressed-up all designer-like.

This is why it's useless to do spec comparisons between Mac and PC's. Mac users don't care that much about specs. If they did they would buy a PC. A $1000 PC wipes the floor with a $1000 Mac. If it's shiny, thin, expensive, and has the Apple logo on it, they buy it.

I see Mac as a practical tool for people who are not as tech savy and use their computer for a few specific needs. Such as people in the creative industry. They do not need their computer to do everything, just a few very important tasks. Which Macs do well, with out a bunch of 3rd party apps slowing it down.

MS is more versatile and practical if you need diverse computing needs. Many windows functions are hidden beneath the surface. Functions that Mac will claim that they came out with first, etc. And the fact that hardware is not standardized means you will not get a universal experience from one hardware set to another. Another thing that scares off the not so tech savy.

The truth is though that they are merging into the same OS via different paths. Both are slowly turning into each other. Mac now has an OK word processor while windows tries on a skirt.

edit: i do like mac hardware though. It is nice to have a quality standard, my macbook has treated me well for about two years steady. Easy to upgrade ram and HD, which is always nice.

Style?

Macs used to look cool, cutting edge but they haven't changed much in the past 8 years. The white minimalistic effect is getting old...5 years ago.

I think a lot of people who say that Macs don't crash and are super stable just don't DO very much with them. Everyone I've known who had a Mac just used it to browse the internet, write papers, and use first-party applications that came pre-installed.

I worked in a lab that used Macs, and we had more problems with networking and crashes than I ever had on my old Windows 95 computer. They just did not play well with ANYTHING that wasn't Apple brand.

Macs and PCs are designed for different things. You cant really compare them based on function.

The download fall of MAC is that they are hardware limited by what Apple decides, that is also the advantage cos your getting components that are designed to work together flawlessly - but limited with customization.

PCs are a cheaper price option because more companies develop hardware for them, easily upgradable and customizable. But with all that you start to lose compatibility and seamless integration of hardware as well as being more susceptible to conflicts etc.

Im a PC person myself, simply cos its what a i know, lets me tinker and upgrade.
I dont do extensive design work, and if i do any i can still use PS on my laptop if need be.

As for being secure. Windows will always suffer more attacks because more people use it. That means viruses are written to attack windows machines. Its a simple case of numbers, not security.
