|
|
Hey,
I have had my laptop for almost 2 years and after going through a dozen DVD's and CD's I have come to the conclusion my burner is toast.
Does anyone know whether or not a DVD/CD burner has a life on it (# of burns?) Also, what would you recommend to replace...external or internal (laptop). Cost is most important but I don't want to buy something only to replace soon thereafter.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. |

Sure, they die. Had it happen before. This can happen at any time. Just had one replaced at work. It would read but no longer burn. |

You'd might as well just get an external USB burner to replace it if the internal one still reads but just won't write. It will probably be cheaper and easier, unless you really have to burn DVDs on the go. |

just get a new one put in. if your laptop is only 2 years old most likely you can find a replacement drive.
this has been posted before - cost around 50k i think and places all around yongsan can do it for you.
why carry around dead weight! |

Thanks for all the input
Think I'll buy one to replace unless its expensive to install. Hey kiwi, do you know what the going rate in yongsan is for installation...
Also, is it easy enough to do yourself?
Thanks |

I heard its around 50 or 60k for a new drive installed.
If youve done hardware replacement and PC builds in the past id say itll be a peice of piss. if youre not experience i doubt youll pay much for a guy in yongsan to install it aswell. Should take like 10 mins. |

Agreed. Unless you burn DVD's in a lot of different locations, you'd be better off with an external burner. They're faster and more reliable than an internal laptop burner. |

I've gone through 2 or 3 burners on my laptop. Buy an external burner. |

For installation, there's usually one screw on the bottom that holds the optical drive in. Unscrew it, and the drive slides right out. There may be a little "holder tab" or something that you need to take off the old drive and put on the new one - again, it just unscrews.
So, if you have a tiny screwdriver set, you're all set. But yeah, getting an external is easier. |
