Hi

Just wanting to get some advice/details from other parents here in Korea, regarding what you are using for food for your young children...

Our daughter is 6 months now and her Korean mum is feeding her blended rice brought to the boil (which makes a thick soup), and added with potato or sweet potato, or green veges, or fruits (pear is the hot favourite at this time).

I just want some tips regarding vitamins and nutrients she may be needing at this early stage of her development for body and mind...?

We have yet to buy bottled foods (having trouble just finding the stuff in our small city local supermarkets), but I was wondering if the bottled stuff has extra vitamins/nutrients specifically designed for growing babies, that our homemade lunches might not be providing her with?

THanks for any help you can provide!

At 6 months she won't be getting most of the good stuff from real food yet anyway. Just make sure she is still on the breast or formula.

Bottled food here in Korea is exorbitantly expensive for what you get and there is NOTHING SPECIAL ADDED.

A blender or just a simple fork to grind up the stuff you eat would be fine. There are lots of good guides for when to start feeding what kind of food to infants.

At 6 months, the diet you described is appropriate for an infant. Introduce new foods one at a time as she grows until she is eating everything you are at about 2 years.

We feed our little guy a Korean brand formula as well as vegimeal. We started feeding him soft foods at six month of age. We buy him Gerber food from gmarket.co.kr We found it to be the cheapest as far as soft food goes. We also add Gerber cereal to his formula.

We started feeding him melba toast and yoghurt at 1 year old. You can check http://www.rodeoave.com for some foods.

We have a recipe book called "The Well Fed Baby" by O. Robin Sweet and Thomas A. Bloom, PH.D. We bought it at Bandi and Lunis, but you can have it shipped to you through www.whatthebook.com

If you need any other pointers or tips, don't hesitate to drop me a line. PM me anytime, and I can pass on any bits of info we have learned along the way.
