He hasn't a clue. Were it not such a tragedy, it'd be stupidity and incompetence of truly comical proportions. He even mentioned biodiesel, which has the complete opposite of its every intended effect. |

Solar Energy = Expensive. It is no way cost effective.
Wind Energy = Where are you going to put the thousands of turbines, and how are you going to maintenance/service them. The logistics make it expensive
Geothermal = Just read Wikipedia on the disadvantages of Geothermal
Biodiesel = This is going in the wrong direction. We shouldn't be using food, which is becoming increasingly expensive to make fuel.
Obama, we need nuke plants or drill for more oil. Period. |

Obama is a STRONG SUPPORTER of nuclear energy. Illinois is one of the biggest states for nuclear energy as well. That is his STRONG point. I don't know why so many anti-Obama people get on him about nuclear energy when he is such a strong supporter of it.
Wind Energy. Many European countries already use wind energy extensively. Wind Energy expensive? How do you figure? Getting gas from the Middle East is phenominally more expensive on all levels. Anyways, Texas recently surpassed California as the most wind-energy producing state, and many other states are already following suit. Europe is already using it extensively, but the wind available in the Great Plains region alone is enough wind energy to keep the entire country in energy. Weather you support it or not, it already is becoming a major energy source IN AMERICA as well as Europe, and that trend will accelerate under Obama, and it IS much cheaper than oil from the Middle East, which is why it is growing so much all over U.S. and Europe.
Biodiesel. Again, the Great Plains states, the breadbasket of the world. The U.S. government BUYS most of the farm produce anyways and gives tons of free money in subsidies to control prices and on and on. Instead of the gov't giving free money to farmers, they could encourage energy from food sources instead and make it actually profitable so the government won't need to POUR free money into farmers to make farming profitable.
SHEESH, support Americans IN AMERICA...the Great Plains in particular. |

Current technology is indeed insufficient to have any impact on the energy requirements.
But 2 things can happen.
1) Improved technology that uses less energy for more output
2) Improved technology that always for better energy harvesting in an ubiquitous way.
So if you start reducing energy requirements on Oil and nuclear on both ends of the market (Supply AND Demand), even if the efforts in the beginning are not worth it, each and every step in that direction will decrease our dependency on those sources. |

So you think McCain has more knowledge of the energy industry? What exactly is so bad about Obama's remark? |

The trick with bio-diesel is to produce the fuel without impacting food source.
Using plant material that is not used for food.
Growing plant material on land that does not produce food.
Harvesting the plant material efficiently and effectively to keep cost and environmental impact down.
These methods are viable short term solutions.
Bio-diesel is a low cost alternative available today.

love the american attitude, use what we know works even it if is non-renewable and screw any research or investigation into other options that could save us in the future if we invest in them now.
always only thinking 2 feet infront of ya.
Why not just dig up more coal and burn it - it works right. |

Presently most of the Bio-diesel produced in the US is exported to Europe.
Why?
Small diesel engines were practically outlawed by California emission standards, it's only been recently that Diesel engines have been designed to burn clean. There is a new emissions standard that allows for the small diesel and it is beginning to be re-introduced.
The real question will be where will countries Like New Zealand get their bio-diesel when the US starts to use up the supply in their own market.
Of course we could wait for New Zealand to lead us out of the energy crisis. |

Nuclear is the way to go, if the greenies can't stand the thought of drilling for more oil. |

He's a fully-fledged supporter of nuclear power, so yes.
Tiger Beer said Obama supports nuclear, but I've never seen evidence that such support is anything more than reluctant, hence the curious omission of the word "nuclear" from Obama's statement above. Why fail to mention the only thing known to man that can meet expanding energy needs yet simutaneously produce almost no CO2 unless you're, at best, only a reluctant supporter? Obama, when pressed on nuke, always says he's in favor, but there's always a "but"......only if we can deal with nuclear waste. Well, nuclear waste management has been mainstream science for 3 decades. A presidential candidate for the world's most powerful nation (and world's biggest per capita CO2 emitter) should be making statements like....."nuclear waste management is something I know a lot about having been briefed extensively by nuclear waste management experts. Waste is vitrified and stored in deep geological sites where it poses no danger at all to the environment and population. Stories of nuclear waste remaining dangerous for thousands of years are total fiction. We need to get rid of the not-in-my-back-yard problem".
If Obama was so freaking good, he'd make some noises about ending the drug war also. Any person who supports pumping money into silly green energy and drug wars is unelectable in my opinion.

We've pumped money into green fuels for decades, and what is the result? Is there a single scrap of scientific evidence that green fuels - even combined - can satisfy current (let alone future expanding) energy needs? The scientific position is that any future role for green fuels is minimal. This stuff isn't science anymore. It's sheer fantasy. |

Obama can not say "I will end the drug war" because the mouth breathers would say "he's soft on crime". We know that his favorite TV show is The Wire and his favorite character was Omar, the gay, black drugdealer. Obama knows what's up. He has been on the front lines of the drug war and is smart enough to see it as a war on poor blacks.
Hale, Obama is also not religious. He talks a good game but his doubt oozes out of his book Dreams. He has to pretend to be religious, and it was necessary for him to find success in Chicago politics. But he is not a religious man.
There is a great deal to like about him. And again, Matt Taibbi said it best:
Quote: |
So, sure, Barack Obama might be every bit as much as a slick piece of imageering as Sarah Palin. The difference is in what the image represents. The Obama image represents tolerance, intelligence, education, patience with the notion of compromise and negotiation, and a willingness to stare ugly facts right in the face, all qualities were actually going to need in government if were going to get out of this huge mess were in.
Heres what Sarah Palin represents: being a fat f*cking pig who pins Country First buttons on his man *beep* and chants U-S-A! U-S-A! at the top of his lungs while his kids live off credit cards and Saudis buy up all the mortgages in Kansas |
This election, now, is about what America is. Is it a white, right wing country of scared and hyper christians or is it moving away from that? Palin was McCains bet that change isn't comin. |

That is one statement, above, that omitted it.
Do a search on nuclear energy and Obama, and you will see quite a bit of information. He has always been a supporter of Nuclear Energy.
Actually I don't recall McCain speaking much of nuclear energy either, I don't hear him or Palin speak of anything really, except for negative smear campaign tactics, so it is no wonder you haven't (or most others) don't really know where Obama stands on simple issues like nuclear energy.
Search youtube, he has made multiple speeches in support of nuclear energy. |
