Is anyone here a hagwon owner?
I am looking for someone in Seoul who could send me a PM about what it takes to open and run a hagwon. Any useful information would be great. Thanks. |

The only non-Korean citizen in all of Korea who owns a hagwon (not in the name of a Korean spouse or partner) is Paul Robertson, owner of Time Taylor College in Busan. |

I seriously doubt it. Robertson just happens to be the most well-known. |

Well he told me he was the only one, but then I guess information from him has been questioned here before. |

He may be the only Australian. Not sure if he's the only foreigner, but many 'owners' may have the hagwon in their spouses' name.
The D-8 visa sure isn't easy for an individual to get! |

Yeah, I know at least six Americans who own hagwons in Seoul alone, and if they do so under others' names, it's merely as a technicality. |

so basically you guys are proving YBS's point about Mr. Robertson being the only foreign hagwon owner in Korea with the school IN THEIR NAME instead of their spouse's name. |

That's where you are wrong. Robertson may be well known, but personally I know several foreigners that own a hagwon under their wife's name. |

I am Australian and own one in my name in Seoul... and my name isn't Mr Robertson. I know a Canadian guy who owns one in his own name, too. |

Or he was correct at the time he said it and things have changed. Oh wait, that makes sense when we use our heads, we can't do that! |

The first is the capital requirements.
Do you have 5 ok lying around?
You need 50.000.000 won to get the status of a business owner. |
