There are many of us. Wink

My vote is "other opinion." I've worked at a good hagwon and a bad hagwon. I'm at a public school right now. It's better than the bad hagwon, but it's worse than the good hagwon.

Yeah-I was at 3 schools last year, and the once a week Friday principal is a charter member of The Piece of Crap Club. He tried bullying me around and that didn't happen; unfortunately my replacement is 21 and female and she must respect his authoritaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I like working at a public school but keep in mind, I've never worked at a hagwon. And I really don't have any desire to work at one. Overall, I think that working at a public school is less of a crapshoot. Teaching 22 classes a week is nice. I just met a hagwon teacher that teaches between 7 and 9 classes a day with the first 4 hours being kindergarden students. And there are 7 other teachers at the school with similar schedules.

If you're new to teaching in Korea, I think the public school is the safer bet. But if you have a friend that is recommending a hagwon, it shouldn't be too bad. Having small classes of 4-12 students would be nice and you definitely would see a lot more progress in the students if you are teaching them everyday for a year. And I think you can make more money by working at a hagwon. And having a lot of co-workers to hang out with after work would be nice.
