Yonsei, Sogang, etc.

A year or two ago, they had Korean language classes on Saturday mornings at the Suwon YMCA. I have no idea how to find out more about it, though.

Ajou University in Suwon offers Korean classes. I am not sure what the times and days are. I have a friend that takes classes there.

There is a class that just started this week at a church called Onnuri English Ministry. They do a 9 week course for all levels, but the biggest group is beginners. It's church run, but it's not "churchy" if you're not into that, don't worry.

There are lots of students in my class from Anyang, and I think the commute would be about 35 mins? The class is in Yongsan-gu.

Anyway, it's $21 for the books and $15 for snacks and there are about 50 people there every saturday from 11-1pm. This saturday (the 25th) there is no class, but the following saturday it's on...

Take line 4 to Inchon Station, then transfer to Seobinggo. At Seobinggo exit toward the apartment buildings (away from the main road) and you will see a large church to the right. Cut through the apartment buildings, and from the main church courtyard go into the right hand building, 3rd floor. If you're lost just ask someone.

Anyway, it's a good way to meet lots of different people from all over the place.

like someone said earlier, Ajou University offers Korean class from M-F.
I was a student at Ajou University, and have lots of friends who used to take the class before. They have a language center in front of the main gate, not on campus. What's below is the offical website of the center.

i know im resurrecting an old thread, but i dont have enough posts to pm people.

peterdragon or anybody else- were u able to find some night or weekend classes? i too am located in pyeongtaek (just got here last monday actually). i checked that ajou university link, and it hasnt been updated for a few years, and according to the schedule that was up there; they only have classes during the day. i teach during the day so its not an option for me

I studied Korean for 2 years and 2 months and my level is so low it is ridiculous. I've made it through the first 3 books of the 6 GANADA Korean for Foreigners textbook series books. I speak a lot more Korean than your average foreigner, but I'm still struggling. Things have not become easy as I had imagined at the beginning of my journey.

I've heard from accomplished speakers of Korean and Japanese that it takes 3+ years to become conversational... 3+ years. I think that is true and more so when you live in a city where everyone wants to speak to you in English. I'm so sick of Koreans talking to me in English after I ask them in Korean to speak Korean. Koreans who speak English well have the hardest time speaking Korean to foreigners.

If you really want to learn fast, move to a small countryside village where you have to speak to survive.
