Where can I get one? I looked around Yongsan and found only one that looked like it might be (80 Plus certified). Bought it, installed it, the stupid thing is still loud as *beep* when running idle, possibly louder than the cheap one was before it failed.
I wanted to buy something decent because I need a new one anyway, but I can't find anything. I hate buying online but I'll do it if I have to. I've googled the hell out of this problem over the last month and have no idea. Every PSU out there says it's "silent" but I've tried two new "silent" PSUs and they are big fat liars. I'm looking for either recommendations for PSUs based on personal experience or advice on making this one quieter.
And yes I have checked all the other fans and possible sources of noise and all that.

The local brand, Zalman, do a line of quiet PSU's, from 450w to 850w. I've been using the 600w (105,000) for over a year and it's whisper quiet. |

They should be in a few stores in Yongsan but I couldn't say which. |

I'm not as huge on them as some people are, but Zalman is probably a good buy if you're looking for something quiet in Korea.
They make quality PSUs that are very quiet, and it seems they're not as overpriced in Korea as they are elsewhere. |

The quietest and most reliable and well built psu i've ever seen are the corsair one's. they use seasonic parts (if i remember correctly). both of mine were whisper quiet, superbly made and rock solid reliable. great modular cabling too. |

Went to Yongsan today and all the stores in Sunin Plaza sell Zalman... they just aren't on the shelf so you have to ask. Tried four stores and they all had Zalman and none had Corsair. Can't wait to take it home and try it out. |

It's awesome. Now the only noise coming from the computer is the graphics card. It's got to go. There is a ridiculous number of possibilities for a PCI-E graphics card, anyone have a rec in that area? |

There are a couple that come with zalman coolers on them, and those are pretty quiet. You'll have to google to find specific models. If you really want it quiet get something with passive cooling (no fan). Again, don't remember who makes what offhand, google it to find out. |

No, I got my PSU in the states.
The 4850 is a fantastic card for someone looking for good performance without having to spend $500. However, it's notorious for being one of the hottest/loudest cards around. I'd recommend looking at a passive cooled 9800gt or gtx if he needs the performance. However:
The OP is probably doing a HTPC or recording PC based on how picky he's being about sound level. That means he probably doesn't need a lot in terms of performance. I'd do some research and find a card from a couple generations ago that doesn't put out much heat. Track down a passively cooled one and enjoy the peace and quiet. |

Nah, I don't actually have a real reason. I just don't like it. Performance for the new card doesn't matter too much because everything else in the box is over two years old and isn't going anywhere. Every two years I get the urge to mess around with my computer. Usually I start out trying to upgrade and end up tossing everything but this time it looks like I will be satisfied with only spending $300 or so. Woohoo! |
