What was the question?

I was just taking the piss, it really didn't say that.

I know, but humor me and make one up.

ddubel,

Actually I first ran across Alicebot a couple of years ago, and in fact I was looking at it yesterday again and half thinking of trying to set up a bot myself. Then I discovered you've already gone and done it. Nice work!

Thanks, I think it is a very "practical" idea. Our students just can't type too well and so this kind of liberates the user.

I emailed Richard Wallace a few times and got Dave working on my home computer with voice recognition. I speak - he speaks.... but for the moment, this just isn't possible online. For many reasons I'm sure you can foresee.

I'll be changing the questions periodically and making a higher level version. It's a nice page people can use for practice, I think. A little fun from time to time....

I'm still trying to get Dave to write/speak some poetry...

I was just showing somebody the room and this is the conversation piece that was left there....

Quote:
Human: Be quiet.
Dave: As far as I know, I am not making any sound at all.
Human: Stop talking to me.
Dave: OK I'll try not to do it so much.
Human: Good
Dave: Next question?
Human: Are you insane?
Dave: I think the polite term nowadays is "mentally ill".

I don't know who was less human....

We also have a lot of other bots on EFL Classroom if you are interested in testing out other "intelligences". A John Lennon bot, A God bot, A Starbucks Barista bot etc..... Click the TALK tab and then Bot Talk.

I've made a public page of the new language bot I've tweaked. With a lot of help from fellow programming teachers in Egypt, I am introducing DAVE the Chat Bot

I want to try it, but when I click on the link I just get the "The page cannot be displayed" message.

Never mind, it's working now. Wow, this is cool! Although, sadly Davebot needs some help with his math skills.

Quote:
Human: What is 2 plus 2?
Dave: Four.
Human: What is 2 minus 2?
Dave: Two.
Human: What is 2 times 2?
Dave: Oh that's a tough one, isn't it. Two times two is four.
Human: What is 2 divided by 2?
Dave: 12.
Human: What is 2 squared?
Dave: 12.
Human: What is the square root of 2?
Dave: Approximately 1.4.

Funny how he missed the easy ones and yet knows the square root!

I woke up intending to get something done and instead spent far too much time chatting with Dave Bot about Ethiopian and Suzanne Somers (both topics that he brought up, not me).
