Got a call from my mom to say that the UK crc she ordered for me has arrived. I come from Northern Ireland and this thing cost 10-00GBP.
Slightly worrying thing is she says it doesn't look like a certificate rather just a letter.
In this they only confirm that there is nothing known about me there from the info they have (locally) and that we should wait until another document arrives from Scotland Yard which will show the results of the national police computer. Looks like we paid for something which doesn't look like it will cut it with immi...
Anyone had a similar experience? |

What kind of visa? You might be able to get an extension. |

It's E2. My boss told me I'll need the CRC even for the extension. If the previous poster is right and what we've received isn't the real deal it spells trouble... |

My reply looks just like a letter as well, with a blue band across the bottom and top. It says: "From the personal details supplied in your request there is no information held about you in the Person Record category of the Police National Computer.
Is this sufficient? And do I have to get it notarized? I've heard conflicting views about this for a UK citizen... |

I phoned the British Embassy in Seoul and we can either send it there with an SAE and a money order for 60,000 won (57000 fee and 3000 postage) or do it in person for 57000.
They said the Consular Section will authenticate it (whether the word is apostille or notarise - I dunno but they knew what I was talking about and they said they can do it)
Does yours say anything about Scotland yard or any hint of having to wait for another document? |

No it doesn't say I have to wait for anything else. The only mention of "Scotland Yard" is in the address in the top right hand corner. Reading through other threads just now, it seems that this is the correct document.
BUT
I am going down to London next weekend and planned to get it notarised/apostilled or whatever the word is, but unsure about whether I have to visit a solicitor's before then to get it stamped... |

You can get it notarized and then apostled by the foreign office in half a day. The whole process cost me under 50 pounds. You need to do all this in milton keynes, this is no longer in london.
be warned some solicitors will try and charge you 100 for notary but mine cost 20 from a helpful guy who is opposite the foreign office for appostle and does these all the time |

I had a real pain in the arse trying to get this sorted too. After 2 trips to the FCO and a solicitor trying to charge me 160 pounds I got it stamped by a local solictor for 6 pounds. The satmp just had his name and address on it (so I could have done that myself) and the FCO didn't even look at it. I eventually got it stamped at the FCO after queing again. I got my E2 visa in Mongolia where none of the staff could read English so they didn't even look at the paperwork anyway!
Red tape - don't you just love it?! |

That sounds like a basic disclosure (from Scotland?) which is what I came through with and it was fine. Although, that was before they adjusted the visa rules late last year, so don't take it as gospel. If you've no criminal background, then they'll just send you a blank letter headed piece of paper, which is a bargain for a tenner. |
