"Bassexpander" merely asserted (correctly) that a finite intelligence can't understand an infinitely intelligent being (aka God)

Then "laogaiguk" irately jumps all over him for "telling him what he can't do" ...

Go figure ...

There is no "belief" in aliens. Aliens are a statistical probablity

99.9% of those who use the word "aliens" in talking about extraterrestrial life BELIEVE IN ALIENS, that is, believe they are out there and have or will visit the earth some day.

Now there's a statistical improbability!

Those who use the word "aliens" and those who use the word "God" are equally and wholly on the other side of a divide they got to out of a leap of faith.

And it's obvious to those of us on this side.

The topic of alien visits was completely avoided in my OP for a reason. But, since you raise the issue, alien visits seem unlikely but the unlikelihood is not 0%

With such massive possibility, the chances of alien theists are good.

Corollary to that: that a finite intelligence can't understand a greater finite intelligence, nor be able to determine if that greater intelligence is finite or infinite. In other words, just because a primitive Jewish tribe assumed God was infinitely intelligent doesn't mean they were right.

Or as Clarke's Third Law states:
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

In the Vedic view, the finite material world - sometimes manifest and sometimes unmanifest - is corollary to the idea of free will in the infinite spiritual world.

By infinite intelligence, everything finite is created, maintained, and destroyed, and everyone's material desires are fulfilled - according to their karma.

Our original idea to try to enjoy and exploit material nature was a sinful desire (for which we may have to suffer repeated births and deaths in the evolutionary cycle for millions of years.)

Actually, we never really leave the spiritual world but are willing participants in the cosmic dream of Maha-Vishnu - whatever God dreams becomes reality.

There is other life out there. Other created beings are mentioned in the Bible. The problem is they would NEVER visit this planet. Our planet is under quarentine (sp?) because of sin.

As a Christian, I have no problem accepting the probability of life on other planets.

God is infinite. How can you, as man, pretend to even begin to understand or question Him? We can try, but we'll never fully understand. Nothing wrong with trying.

How arrogant of you to tell me what I can't do. How in the hell do you know? People just assumed our Kings, appointed by God, did what they did on their mighty thrones with all their splendor because they were Kings. It's not a perfect analogy, but close enough. If your silly bible is right, God is not perfect, as he didn't create Eve right away and only realized later he made a mistake by not creating her. You can't possibly say what I can and can't do, nor what people will or won't be able to do in the future. THAT is arrogance, not trying to understand a greater being (if there is one).

You left out the part where the apple is a vagina and the serpent is a *beep*. I mean talk about arrogant it doesn't even taste like an apple.

As you know, there is a lot of real estate out there. What you say maybe true. There may very well be 100,000 civilizations in our very galaxy. But that doesn't mean we will ever know of their existence. There is just too much distance between us and them, that's if to say they are any more or less advanced than we are.

Hey I own a star... Does that mean I own the planets that may orbit it?
