What can anybody recommend doing in Boracay? Any very cheap lodgings you could recommend? I'll be there this month. Any rip-offs to avoid? |

Avoid the touts on the beach and do your currency exchange down by boat station 1. Do NOT exchange at the tourist center by Alice's. They have the WORST rates on the beach.
There is a new department store on the island side of D'Mall that has many of the same things you can get in D'Mall and at 1/2 the price.

Thanks for the heads up. I will be stopping in Davao first so I'll get my money exchanges done there. I plan on staying at least 6 days in Boracay. If its really nice then I might extend it. |

Boracay is REALLY nice...gorgeously stunning, I love it there.
But I think 6 days will be enough.
I always feel the same....first couple days, I feel on a high with being in such a gorgeous place. Then it starts to kick in, the 'oh this routine again, I wish there was a movie theater or something else to do today', etc. I think by Day 6, you will be feeling that, but feeling real good up until then, for sure!.
You going to Samal Island off Davao this time as well? |

Yes tiger. We have some land on Samal we need to fence in. I will probably lose some weight in that heat. This time might also try going to Pearl Farm. |

Sorry to detour from Boracay, but please do tell about Samal and Davao if and when you have time (just generally). I have been to West Mindanao (Zamboanga), but I have never been to Davao. What's it like? Cheers. |

Davao is a medium sized city. Nothing like Manila. Within 15 minute drive you are out in the countryside. I have only been to Paradise resort in Samal. I really didnt like the beach there much. Isla Reta was a lot better. Its another island about 20 min boat ride away. I will try to see more of Samal this time and pearl farm resort. Major advantage also is that the place doesnt get hit by typhoons. |

Teachurrrr, I was there down there about a year ago (for the second time). I like Davao. Here is a thread with my first-hand impressions of Davao as I was there: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=115398&start=0 |

I just re-read some of it myself to jog my memory. I cannot recommend enough this place as a place to get your hotel room in Davao!
BAGOBO HOUSE HOTEL
Gov. Duterte Street
DAVAO CITY
Incredibly centrally located, and it's a brand new hotel, so its clean and everything else. 900 pesos a night. I seldom if ever recommend hotels, because there are so few I actually think I'd return to or worth recommending, but this is one I definetely will.
-------
Across the street is NULL NETXPRESS INTERNET CAFE. They have 2-300 internet computers each of them in your own private cubicle and it's 24 hours. It's next to 'Space Burger'. (13 pesos/hour or 300 won/hour). Very fast connection, and huge quiet cubicles separating each computer from every other.
------
At least that would get you setup with the minimums on Davao - location, hotel and internet....and then everything else you can find in a book - things to do and see, all pretty straight forward after that. |

I've just spent a week here in Davao and having a great time. I feel as if I had been living in a cave for the past few years in Korea. Going shopping here is fantastic! Food and fruits and to die for. Driving is a challenge also. I really will hate returning to Korea in a few months. |

I went to Boracay last year and stayed off the beach at the Serendipity Resort. Large rooms, great service and the fee was 800 peso a night. If you stay on the beach you are going to pay a lot more. |

Thanks for the info Chachee. I will look into that. By the way, I almost got my first driving ticket here. I guess they keep your license until you pay the fine. My wife's family is well connected so they let me go. IF anybody wants to drive here, be forewarned. They will take your drivers icense on the spot. |
