The joongang daily failed to report the names of the crackers and companies.

Why?

and why are people posting dumb comments on that website like "I ate half a bag and I feel fine"? of course you feel fine, it's not like venom or something, ingest it and you die seconds later kind of thing.

What actually surprised me today, when I went to Homeplus, is that they have these children plates made with melamine - and it was written in LARGE letters to advertise for it.

I wouldn't have thought it to be a wise advertising move....

Nope I am very serious. I was quite tempted to defy all rules and buy a set - they were Mickey Mouse and my daughter love MM! Plus they were only 4,900 for 2...

I still might buy them...

Actually, I remember reading Pooty write somewhere that those plastic cafeteria plates and bowls are made with melamine... no?

Anyway... I wonder how many they'll sell...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melamine#Toxicity

Quote:
Melamine by itself is nontoxic in low doses, but when combined with cyanuric acid it can cause fatal kidney stones due to the formation of an insoluble melamine cyanurate.[12] Melamine is described as being "Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Chronic exposure may cause cancer or reproductive damage. Eye, skin and respiratory irritant. However, the toxic dose is on a par with common table salt with an LD50 of more than 3 grams per kilogram of bodyweight.[13] FDA scientists explained that when melamine and cyanuric acid are absorbed into the bloodstream, they concentrate and interact in the urine-filled renal microtubules, then crystallize and form large numbers of round, yellow crystals, which in turn block and damage the renal cells that line the tubes, causing the kidneys to malfunction.[14]

So it's definitely bad to eat it, but eating off of melamine plates might be OK.
