b) the magic words that I need in order to get my local shop to take my cash and give me some more creidt on my phone

Lose the yes time. You can get a 019 account as a foreigner with a mere 30,000 won deposit and you don't have to buy a new phone. They will want to see your alien card and your bankbook, that's all. The yes time is a major major scam. www.lgtelecom.com for more info on accounts for foreigners.
