The English Villages have been an embarrassing failure. The solution? Build an even bigger one, at the cost of 1.4 trillion won.

Let's bravo our hub of sparkling!

You clearly don't understand unique Korean sentiment. Koreans don't have any opportunity to use English, you know. *cough*

This one is actually different because the schools in the city will be in English, except for Korean language classes, and I believe history classes. Everything else will be taught by English-speaking teachers many of whom will be from the west. That's the plan as I've heard it at least.

You actually think they will build a 'city' devoted to English? Rolling Eyes

It's just a plan like the other grandiose plans that will never see the light of day once they realize they won't get the money to pay for it all, or civic groups complain, or the guy in charge goes to jail for stealing a % of that construction money or the builder who's a relative who overcharged for the work or..(you get the picture).

Too much huff...it'll never happen.

PS: The 'hub of asia' was pressed much more and it was an epic fail.

According to JDC, the tuition fees should be somewhere about what is charged at some of the well-known private institutions in Korea

Private institutions charge in the 20-30M won per year.

I'll bite. Why have all of these English villages, cities, etc., failed? I've noticed a number of articles that talk about them but never really explain in detail what they suppose to do beyond "pseudo" immersion.

Ahh...more English for the rich. Great, just what Korea needs. Who the *beep* is rich and wants to live on Jeju?

Another stupid idea.

They hire some native speakers and then refuse to honor the contract and run them off. Then, they bring in Russians. They are a waste of time and money.

I suspect that MANY Koreans have been to an English Village ONCE and now refuse to return because even they eventually know a scam when they see one.
