RNC shells out $150K for Palin fashion
The Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.
According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.
The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.

I don't know if this is typical of other candidates or not. At the end, it says the clothes will go to charity. This could just be one of those Nancy Reagan gold-trimmed plates deals.

When her daughter was in NYC, Sarah Palin put her up in some $700/night hotel for 4-5 days. That one was charged to the State of Alaska, along with most of her recent massive spendings on her family 'vacations' milking this run for VP with all she can get.
Wonder how much she is charging to the McCain campaign now. Looks like his campaign is a financial mess again much like it has been throughout his campaign. Typical Republicans, have NO CONCEPT whatsoever on how to properly run even on incredibly large budgets given to them. |

While the McCain-Palin ticket is likely to go down in history as the most appalling pair to run and lose, at least in recent American history, I must say this is the most amusing campaign I have ever seen.
It's the Internet, stupid.
Arianna Huffington made the point on Larry King that Karl Rove tactics worked in 2000 and 2004, but the don't work anymore, in the age of the Internet.
When McCain and Palin say we don't really know who Barack Obama is, I think most voters look at him like he's from Mars. Anything anybody wants to know about any of the candidates (including their clothing bills) they can google in seconds. But McCain is totally clueless cause he doesn't use the Internet.
And, on top of that, the press is doing a much better job of checking campaign claims this time. |

Is this even legal? Individuals give the RNC money to support a candidate and Sarah blows 80k at Neiman Marcus? WTF? |

Unfortunately, while ridiculous, I would presume that it is legal. The RNC is, after all, 'supporting' their candidate, aren't they? |

Because deep down, even if they are in utter denial about it, most people still believe that a woman's primary function is to look great. I don't like her much, but I totally understand why she and her party would go to great effort and expense to make her look immaculately dressed and coiffured. Think of the recent world outcry when Catherine Zeta Jones was snapped with less than perfect make up. Older acquaintances have discussed those days of all the headlines and hoo-ha in the 80s when Fergie first came on the scene and made all those fashion faux-pas - while Princess Diana was admired and revered for never putting a 'fashion foot' wrong.
People are stupid and need this kind of crap.
BTW, $295 for baby's clothes is a paltry sum. Ever been shopping for gifts for someone's baby?
