So I took a job at an adult academy, but the boss decided to let a 3rd grade middle school boy into my conversation class. Ok his english is good enough, but his conversation is limited to 'i dont know' and 'just because'. great.
Anyway, complaining aside, for the class we have a textbook which has articles for the students to study at home, and then we discuss them in class... the problem being its directed at adults. Discussions about marriage, work etc is ok for the rest of the class... but Id like to give out some topics more appropriate for him from time to time.
So does anyone know of any websites that have some articles aimed at teenagers? |

Ha
One place I worked had the odd middle or high schooler mixed in with our adult classes. They still had to come to our end-of-session drinking parties but were limited to 'cider' or cola. Mostly. |

Yeah hes joined a few school parties... he claims he doesnt like beer, but his older sister is there to keep an eye on him anyway. She takes him home before the rest of us drink a little too much. |

I've been in a similar situation before except it was an elementary school student in an adult beginer class. I always encouraged him to join the class activities by saying something silly. For example, if we were discussing jobs I'd ask: "Are you a taxi driver?" He got a kick out of it, the adults did too. It kept him interested and he participated.
Talk about a time when the adults were teens and the problems they had. Tell them to tell a funny story about school or their friends. It will bring back memories for the older students and the younger student will have something to talk about. |
