Or "Other" (Please say why)

http://www.holytaco.com/2008/06/03/the-10-most-worthless-college-majors/

Funny, I thought I'd see Psychology in there somewhere.

Fantastic just for the pictures. Thanks for sharing.

edit. no wait, this is why it's funny:

And let me inform you, when youre interviewing with Bob from the HR team at Wal-Mart whos wearing a tie that has the twin towers smoking with writing underneath that says We Will Never Forget, your art history degree says to him Im a commie a-hole who thinks Im better than guys with 9/11 ties.

Haha, the photos...Latin Boy is awesome.

I'm a little hurt but not at all surprised to see my major on there.

and for your next trick, what's my degree?

People who feel a deep reassurance by their degrees make me throw up a little in my mouth.

I'll admit my degree is pretty useless (Business Admin, Management) but I really think the process of earning a degree is another kind of education. You get the core knowledge of your major but you also learn how to accomplish a task, meet deadlines, deal with difficult people, etc. At least, one would hope to learn these things in college, and not after they've started their first *real* job...

Yeah, I agree with you. Unless you're doing something highly specialised, you don't have to worry about what you studied in order to get the average entry level jobs.

At the end of it, you've begun and finished something.

I studied Politics....clearly pretty useless and I'm now completely disinterested in the things I have learned.

Never stop learning. Being self-taught, or taking courses on the side...always a good idea.

Probably 90% of what I learnt in university and retained comes from out-of-class things like volunteering and meeting people.

Also, there are far more bizarre things to major in out there, including homeopathy, the occult, etc.

I would imagine almost anyone would learn how to do all those things way before they even enter university. Anyone who has any sense of dedication to something in their life learns all about deadlines, dealing with people and accomplishing tasks. For those who have no care in the world for anything but having a good time, well.. They will never learn any of those things.

The OP should run a poll of what the posters think are the most worthless. Can't say I agree with philosophy (Ph.d anyone?), but the rest were mostly pants.

I'd have added marketing simply because anyone who is in marketing is a cunt.

It's all in the context of finding a job. Doesn't anybody study purely out of interest anymore?

I never thought I'd be getting a job with my degree while I studied it (Philosophy with a minor in History). No one did. We studied it because we were interested in it and we had some great professors along the way who aided our understanding. Once I pay for this degree, then I'll go back and do another that is more career oriented... which will only take two years now that I've finished one already.

It wasn't useless for me. I could see myself being as happy without having the highest paying job on the block.

I agree, some degrees are completely useless. The prevalence of BAs in Psychology is absurd, as are BAs in Sociology and ID. There are a lot of majors that have been "made up" as time went on to increase enrolment.

Me. I'm getting my MA in English Lit. Well, I also wanted to study under some specific professors.
