Quote:
"Mark my words," Biden warned Sunday at a Democratic fund-raiser. "It will not be six months [after the inauguration] before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy."

Then he added, "Watch. We're going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."

Now, here's where it gets scary.

Obama's "gonna need your help to use your influence within the community to stand with him. Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right."

What the F is this? We are going to have an international crisis? Like Kennedy had? And we'll just have to trust that they are doing the right thing about it, even if it seems like they are doing the wrong thing about it?

Geez, these guys aren't even hiding it anymore. haha. This should be a fun year.

Yes he will be tested.

As Kennedy was tested with the Missile crisis, so shall Obama be tested.

So what will be the test?

My guess would be the Iraq pullout and the consequences of it.

Either escalation in Afghanistan or an upheaval in Pakistan's or Iran's role after the pullout and Turkey's reaction to that.

Other things to consider:

China ie. North Korea, Taiwan.

Russia ie. Georgia, Ukraine et al.

Domestically the economy and it's international effect.

There will be a test, will you support a Presidents hard choice?

Apparently some foreign powers like to test new presidents. Obama is an unknown factor on the international scene, so it makes sense that someone, somewhere will see how far he can be pushed. It probably won't be nearly like the Cuban missile crisis though.

By throwning it "we need your support because it won't be immediately apparent that we are right" it sounds like it will be a generated conflict of Obama's choosing doesn't it?

This could be very interesting. I wonder how America would take, for example, a renewed mission in Somalia or intervention in Sudan.

Is there any way for him to show leadership in Africa without the Republicans somehow spinning it that he is involving American in Africa, not because it would be the right thing to do, but because he is half black? In an ironic twist of fate I see Obama being black basically hamstringing him on any issue that deals with Africa. Us smart whites stayed out of Rwanda. Who knows what Obama would do is a tone I could see emerging.

I think he will be elected but I also predict quite a lot of second guessing will be done during his administration because of his ethnic background. That thread about what a white politicians could get away with and how those same situations would affect a black president will be very telling I think.

"always bet on black"

the world leaders will be so numb at the thought of a black man (gasp) holding command of the greatest military force in the world that the potential for fullscale new conflict is minimal

one angry violent wave of his black fist and the powers that be in the kremlin will tremble at the recollection of every movie and black guy stereotype they are familiar with: northern Georgia will no longer be a problem of Russian occupation

seriously... he can play chicken and win - just by using still rampant prejudice against those who have it

I'd like to hear more of the context in which that was spoken. Who is he talking to?

What came to my mind was not the Missile Crisis, but Kennedy's meeting with Khrushev in Vienna in '61 where Khrushev was very aggressive and Kennedy said, "He beat the hell out of me."

I think what caught my attention most was Biden's choice of words.

He said, "Mark my words..", which as we all know, is quite strong qualitativley.

In addition, he went on to describe the event which will happen. How does he know the people will not agree at first, but have to just trust the president?

This is all very strange language to be used my the vice-president nominee during a race.

Does Biden know something we do not? Well, his language seems to suggest so.

Well, if you take it that way, I guess his language would at least suggest that Obama will be the next Prez.

A lot of nominees speak like, "when I am president, I will, ...."

But certainly not like this,

Quote:
Obama's "gonna need your help to use your influence within the community to stand with him. Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right."

The bolded part is VERY specific. What the hell is he talking about? And again, what does he know that we do not?

Doesn't anyone else find this language alarming?

He is predicting some pretty specific things here.

Anyone?

Joe Biden has a LONG HISTORY of being LONG-WINDED.

Apparently the first time Obama encountered Biden in DC, Biden was going on and on about something or another....Obama passed a note to someone else that said 'just shoot me'...haha.

In the end though, Obama chose Biden because of what it brought to the table positively. But one of Biden's weaknesses are his long-windedness and ability to endlessly ramble.

This quoted statement by Biden, is basically saying that some nation leader in the world is going to do something strange or weird and looking for a reaction to see how the new administration is going to act to external events. This is inevitable, but for whatever reason, ol' Joe is rambling on about it. I certainly wouldn't take this particular rambling as prophetic by any means whatsoever.

I found this article by Bill Kristol responding to Biden. Kristol: What Biden Implied It includes McCain's response.

Kristol manages to interpret it that Obama will respond weakly to some crisis and then criticizes what Obama has done only in Kristol's fantasy. McCain doesn't do any better. He says Obama 'invites' a crisis.

If we want to know what Biden meant, someone will have to ask him. In the meantime, the conspiracy theorists can play 'connect the dots'. It will keep them entertained.
