|
|
There is a new deli sandwich restaurant at Hyehwa Station, Line 4. It's a Washington D.C. franchise named Phillip's.
They have hot, cold and bagel sandwiches, salads, soups, espresso, beer and other drinks. There are different cheese and bread options, too. Meats and cheeses are cut off the blocks, not prepackaged slices.
A basic gourmet sandwich will cost you about 5,500 won. They beat Subway, Quiznos and especially the toasted sandwiches shops.
To get there, exit Hyehwa station, exit 1, and do a U-turn. You'll see McDonald's on your left and Kraze Burger after that. Turn left at Kraze Burger and walk back 2 streets/alleys. You'll see Phillip's on the right.
Let me know if I'm right in my upstanding critique. |

Hunh?
I'll second Bibbity- Phillips has the best sandwiches I've had in a long while- definitely get the ciabbata bread option add-on for 500 won extra.
Wood and Brick is good/ Paris Croissant Ok at times, and there used to be a great place in Hongdae...but for now this is my favorite. The deli near Wolfhound is also damn tasty. |

Van Islander, don't be angry or anti-Seoul because your rural area doesn't have fresh, western style sandwiches.
I'm don't have stock in Phillip's, I'm helping my fellow ESL teachers find the best western foods, often are hard to find in Korea. You are welcome to come visit Seoul anytime and take my advice. |

Sorry, don't know hours, but they are open for lunch and dinner. I'm guessing like most places, they close around 9 or 10pm. |

Ate there again today, freaking wonderful.
They have a membership deal now where you earn 5% or something, but that's not the point. The point is having hot pastrami with peppers and cheese along with a 6.3% alcohol Cooper's Extra Stout.
I will say that some of the staff seems to be too new, but it is a new restaurant. It must take some experience to make a deli sandwich from scratch. Give yourself 5-10 minutes to get your food whereas in the states it would be out in 2-3. But still worth the wait. |
