I'm at a hagwon in Cheonan where I'm the only foreigner. I can't understand why people only put about 20 sheets at a time in the copier and printer ...like today, I was about to print something (as in modifying the printer terms), and another teacher grabbed the last remaining paper in the printer (2 pages) to put into the copier. It's like my coworkers don't consider the prospect of needing paper until they hit the button. Every time I ask for paper, I get about 10 sheets. Is there a problem with putting in a whole pack at a time? I mean it doesn't limit our demand... so instead we get to listen the incessant "out of paper" beep. (I don't read much, so I don't know how to mute it or I would!)
Yes, I realize this is very mundane, but I'm at a really good hagwon, so I have to find something to be baffled about, right?

| Obviously, you should grab a pack(s) whenever you see them lying around. Do what they do but try to print on both sides of the paper, keep your lessons on 1 sheet(two sides) or 2 sheets(4 sides). Save the trees! |

The packs aren't lying around! They're practically under lock and key!
And I do print on both sides when I can, and when I can, I bring in my own recycled paper.
I'm not into useless handouts or busywork- my desk is near the copier, so every 10 minutes I witness the paper scramble.  |

Yea, hagwons are stingy with paper, supplies, and pay, because they're a for-profit business entity.
The paper and your diploma are mostly likely under lock and key by the secretary who's job depends on cost control. |

| Hogwons are all about nickel and dime-ing expenses and maximizing profits. Hence the lax "standard" of passing students vs. student enrollment. |

This reminds me of my days in Cheonan at my first academy. My boss was rather cheap. She didn't really like spending money on paper.
Many people in Korea act as if it is World War II and things are scarce.
Being cheap is very, very, very, very common in this country. When I lived in Cheonan, my academy had horrible CD players. At my current academy, we have horrible CD players, and they know it, and I feel embarassed in front of my students. Now, there are some Korean employers who know you have to spend money to make money. Are you some start-up academy that is new, and the person doesn't have a lot of money and he or she is watching every nickel being sent? I hope that school is a decent place in other respects. You know what? If it gives you piece of mind get your own paper and put in your office and use it for your use when you got a big project. That way, you won't have to deal with this. At my first job in Cheonan I ended up bringing up my own CD player. |

At my first hagwon, the owner didn't get me an apartment. He rented this room in a small run down house (100,000 won). Then when the other people moved out, a family moved in. He was surprised when I said I didn't like it  |
