| Is it possible for an American to get an extension on their tourist visa, without leaving the country? |

| go to immigration, fill out the form, pay a bit of cash (20,000 I think, but could be wrong), get them to stamp your passport. leave. Unless there's a line, shouldn't take too long. |

Tourist visa (C3) or visa waiver (entry) stamp?
You cannot extend a tourist (C3) VISA in Korea. You need to jump out of the country and come back on a waiver stamp or a new visa.
You CAN extend a visa waiver stamp by filling in an application and paying the 30k fee for the extension.
This WILL change next month when Korea joins the visa waiver program in the states. The entry stamp will go from the current 30 days to 90 days and you won't be able to extend it.

Is this known fact, or a logical deduction. Don't mean to doubt you, it certainly makes sense. It just directly applies to my situation because I am on a C-3 tourist visa now. I am shying away from getting a work visa for a year, because that would cancel the remaining 3 years on my C-3 visa (which is good for 5 years). If the entry stamp will indeed go to 90 days, then I won't be needing my C-3 visa anymore anyway.

AND...starting next month, the states will be full of illegal workers for sure.  |

| I believe there are a couple of different offices here in Seoul. The one I usually go to is near Omokgyo Stn., Line number 5 (Purple line). I forget which exit (maybe exit 7?), but there are signs in the station as to which way to go. The walk is about 10-15 minutes from the station. |
