So I got screwed over by my last employer, and, after taking the matter to the Labor Board of Jamsil, it's looking more and more like it's gonna go to court because she hasn't responded to the Board's attempt to contact her (they give her 2 months to respond and work something out).

Well, today I get a text, all in Korean, and I ask my coworker to translate.

It's from a "law firm" saying that, if I drop the suit against my former employer (SDA/HI-EDU for those who may be in the same situation) then I can get paid NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!!

So, since the conversation is all in Korean, I, at first, think it's fairly legit, and that maybe SDA is just paying out. But, what set off my bullshit detector was that they were saying it was "government" money, and that they could only give me so much (about 500,000 less than what I'm owed). Why would the government pay a private company to settle a suit?

They send me to a website where I have to download some forms, and it's not a government site...it's not even a law firm site. It's just some online-storage site.

I download the docs and have my coworker look them over, and two of them are the Labor board docs to cancel an investigation!!! Ha!

Overall, I think it's a good sign. Whoever's on top of this pile of shit is scared. Since there's undoubtably other people suing my boss, I don't think they realized they sent the text to a foreigner.

Anyway, I'm calling the Labor Board and reporting this.

I hope you keep a record of all those messages trying to trick you into dropping your lawsuit when it gets to court. This will ruin whatever credibility they have in the eyes of the judge since it shows they are both lying and deceptive. It would not be something that they would want you to show a judge.

Don't drop it, now. You'll have plenty of time to "negotiate" later.
Besides, you've already seen that your boss will use every dirty tactic in the book. This is just one more.

BTW- No-showing at Labor is a classic Hogwan Association tactic as is the "Let's settle. You drop your case" stunt they're pulling now.

The other part of the "let's settle" tactic is the hagweon owner will try to have you sign a statement agreeing that you have no complaint against them. They'll promise you, verbally mind you, that they'll pay you the second you sign.

DON'T SIGN ANYTHING!

Once you sign that statement, you have no recourse and no case. You are completely at their mercy.

I got fired in my 10th month, the night before I was leaving for vacation for a week,so they didnt have to pay for that holiday. Oh man, I would pay to see this hogwan squirm....slimy bastards!!
