I have three days left on my ARC. I have signed with a new school.
The new school went to Immigration to file the papers for a new Visa number. Immigration wanted a letter of release with only three days left. |

| It's your responsibility to get a letter of release, so I'd get on it fast! |

In your circumstance, it seems pretty unreasonable of immigration. If the new contract starts in three days or after, they should be able to issue a visa number. Obviously your current contract is over and of course your ARC will have expired. There's nothing to be released from. You need the visa number to do a work visa run. So I don't get it. It's not like your transferring employers. If that were the case, you wouldn't need a visa issuance number. I think they're full of crap. |

| Get a non-working extension and have them reapply when your 3 days are up. It means waiting an extra week to do your visa run and start work, but it will solve the problem if you can't get a letter of release. |

I was told this by immigration, that they won't start or even accept the paperwork for a new visa with a new school until the teacher's current E-2 visa has expired.
This may be why the guy wanted to see a letter of release as you still have three days left on your current E-2 visa. |

This was a huge headache for me when I changed jobs, because immigration would only give me 15 days after canceling so waiting for the paperwork to go through for the visa run was a little tense. |

Yeah, it's going to take at least a week to process the visa and get an issuance number.
The OP should've gotten an exit order. I don't see why immi couldn't have confirmed he was finished. Whether he was fired, quit or just finished teaching there; all it takes is a confirmation from his ex-employer. After that, he has 30 days to have the visa processed and go on a work-visa run. I guess that's what the letter of release would be for, but I think immi is just being too picky. |

That has been my understanding as well. Sensible or not, that seems to be pretty standard with immi. |

| Well I finish my contract in 1 day, and I will fax my release letter to immi so they can get the paperwork processed. Seems silly to need a release letter with one day left on my contract and ARC card. I'll be waiting in Bangkok next week for that new Visa number, and once that's done I'm off to the islands...... and back to Korea. |

| I have mentioned this before..so just for anyone who is in this situation and tries the 'non working visREFUL they don't stamp FINAL extension on your ARC...if they do you are stuffed andf have to start from scratch. |

Why do you need to cancel the current visa? I simply changed locations and then extended my current E2 visa. Immigration said they needed 2 weeks, and they didn't need to issue a new number.
In addition, I went to work at the new school immediately after submitting the paperwork. You just can't take money of out Shinhan crappy bank even if you have a bankbook. Never get an account with them. |
