|
|
These days many of us are making daily stops to currency conversion sites. It would probably bring more traffic to Dave's if there was a regularly updated currency table at the top or bottom of the Korean Job Discussion site listing the won's value in the seven currencies of the seven countries from which native teachers come. I have no idea how the computer graphics for that kind of thing work, but hopefully it could be done without slowing the site down.
On the other hand, it might just persuade prospective teachers to look at other countries, who knows, lol. |

I think it would backfire... just checked XE.com and the won was at 1,417.58 to the U.S. dollar!
Maybe I'll be spending my winter vacation in Korea. |

Of course it would backfire. I'm surprised threads about it are allowed.
EPIK had their wonderful salaries converted to American dollars on their website, and with their new update instead of updating the amount, they wisely chose to take the conversion down. It's sad when you actually have to advertise a job rather than just inform about it. |

Yes, that means you get about $1 for 1,480 to 1,490 won at a bank today. That kinda blows donkey winkies. 1,500 to 2,000 is a real stinkeroo. Any more than 2,000, we're in big donkey wiener trouble. Nothing to call home about. |

A 25,000 baht holiday in Thailand now costs more than 1,000,000 won. Is there any nice holiday destination in a country whose currency is also in the pits? |

True but it might be hard to explain to my family why I can't come home at Christmas but can go to Australia. |

Plus, there's the cost of getting anywhere decent. I was checking in flights to Bali... here's the best deal my K-TA could get me last week (and I'm sure fuel surcharges have gone up since then) -
Airfare: 530,000
Taxes & Fuel surcharge : 653,400 |

I'm still seeing 1 to 1.5 million won for a trip to Bali this Winter. I'll pay 650,000 for it, but I would like a stopover in Guam so I can shop for American clothing and eat some American food as well as chat it up with Americans over a beer at a bar.
Maybe a travel agent can get me something that works in my interests. I haven't tried yet as I don't know when school is over and when my vacation is and when and how long I can be gone for. |

???650K won't cover the taxes and fuel surcharge.
What are you trying to say? |

OP,
1) No one would want to come to Korea to teach at these rates and
2) Half of the posters wouldn't understand all of those numbers. |
