So I'm editing some children's books from australia and one of them continuously uses this instead of "rode".

Like, "I went up on a horse".

WTF is this?

Maybe they meant "got up" or "climbed" on the horse. Or maybe "went up" is just an Australian phrase.

That is easy....you go up on horses, down on people, and rode is used for both...this book should be burned for the filth it is!

I thought horses were mounted and ridden.
