what is the differnce between 32 bit and 64 bit windows?
What are the requirements (physical) for running 64 bits?
Why choose one over the others? |

There's going to be a big shift from 32-bit to 64-bit in the near future. The big system manufacturers like Dell and HP want to start using 4GB as standard. Only x64 can handle it.
Most programmers have been writing x64 drivers for a while now. It's very rare to not be able to find an x64 driver. I've been using x64 Vista for the last year and haven't had a driver issue yet.
PC's have been x64 compatible for a few years now. There really is nothing to hold anyone back from going x64. |

Yeah, I didn't mean to make it sound like it wasn't going to be compatible. But most programs are right now intended for 32 bit. It's just in that weird transition phase where you can't really make a wrong choice. In some cases the 32 bit might be faster, while in others the 64 bit would win a speed test. (depending on what programs you are running)
If you know you want 4 gigs of ram, go with 64 bit. |

Personally I would try and wait till Windows 7 before buying a new pc. I don't like paying for upgrades.
And just to repeat with different words: if you are working with *new* heavy graphic programs go with x64. But if your just doing basic stuff, it won't matter either way really. I mean some lower end computers are still being sold with XP. |

^Ahhh, XP has x64 version as well. I've been running Vista x64 for two years now and I'd never go back to X32 land. |

Any major problems?? How much memory are you running?? Any big difference in performance over 32-bit???? |

No problems major. Got sp1 now and that solved media online viewing problems. I've got 4g's ram. Video editing is faster and gaming is awesome. |

32-bit windows uses a 32-bit word size, 64-bit windows uses a 64-bit word size. I think that's the major difference. |
