Just a quick question for everyone working in hogwans. Who else has from the December 25th to January 1st off, but must come back to teach January 2nd (which is a Friday)? I'm happy to be having the week off since I have friends who only get the 25th and 1st, but am just wondering if this coming back to work the Friday is a common thing. It seems a bit silly to me, but hey, guess that's just where we are. |

That's a typical hagwon Christmas vacation. Last year Christmas was on Tuesday and I had from Tuesday to Tuesday off for a grand total of 8 days. They said if Christmas and New Years falls on a Monday, then you get 10 days straight off which almost never happens.
I'm quite a bit more happier this year, because I get December 20th to February something off, but might have to come in the office to chill when not enjoying my 3 weeks Winter vacation in a sunny tropical destination. My PS job proved to be quite a huge improvement over my typical average hagwon job I had in my 1st year. Ah, just 8 more teaching weeks to Winter vacation.... |

It's not typical for Koreans to give anymore than just Christmas Day off. If they do give you a few days off, it's typical of them to give you hardly any notice of this "surprise" vacation where you end up not having anytime to plan for it. And when you do hear of this "wonderully surprising" holiday at the last minute, chances are you heard it through the grapevine. |

Christmas blows anyway. It drags on for way too long. |

I am off on the 25th. The 26th is a scheduled work day; however, I have been granted permission to take a "sick day" and not work that day. I am off the entire following week. This sets me up nicely for a little Thailand excursion. |
