| Well, generally men don't know much about the appearance of other men. An ex-girlfriend and I ran a test on this once. I pointed out guys that I thought would be considered attractive or ugly and she verified whether or not I was right. I was always correct about ugly, but had no consistency picking attractive. |
Yep. Not sure if it's because women all have their own highly personal standards for male attractiveness, or if it's just they're seeing some part of the visible spectrum that men don't ... either way I give up. Can't tell what a woman will find attractive.
I think I've just about finally figured out the signals for if a woman finds *me* attractive. Took a long time for the penny to drop on that one. |

| I think women tend to think in terms of the percieved attractiveness to other women that a given man has rather than his intrinsic attractiveness. You have to remember that they are all essentially prostitutes jockeying for position to score the best Johns. Hence they would tend to concentrate on other factors such as whether the man appeared to be wealthy, well-connected, whether other women seemed to like him and so on. It's all about getting resources, either directly from the man or indirectly by increasing their social status. |

| Stores, shopping, and appearance are geared towards women. They even often shop together. It is no wonder they would compliment each other on how they dress. |
