No, they don't have to prove anything.

They have to have something on you. They may not have to prove it, but they can't just haul someone in off the street. This is not a police state.

if they want, if they have the slighest smell.. you are gone mate...

they don't have to even let you into the country, they can turn you around on suspicion only.. this is their country, whether you stay or not is up to them..

never caught for doing privates, never been put in by anybody, but i renewed my tourist visa 3 times and 2 weeks after the 3rd time.. immigration knocked on my door and that was what was told to me..

even at the airport the 2nd and 3rd times, they called my wife and verified that i was here as a tourist... they even went to her parents house..

no games in this country

been there done that...

Did I catch your attention?

Has anyone posting on this board ever been busted for teaching privates? If so, what was your experience?

I've heard tons and tons of rumors, but haven't met anyone who has been actually busted, fined, and deported.

Rumor has it that its 1 million won fine and you have to leave the country within 48 hours or something like that? But i heard yet another rumor that you can just come right back on another visa?

Anyone with the experience can verify, deny, correct or ridicule this?

You won't be making any money doing privates.

Privates are illegal.

You are welcome.

What's with all the zombies? This died over four years ago. Does someone have to shoot it in the head?

It all depends on the mood of the Immigration officer in question. They can fine you, they can deport you, they can ignore you and fine the school, they can make you apologize deeply then release you... I've had friends and co-workers in all those situations over the years. No consistency.

All depends on how well the Immi officer's mistress blew him the night before or how much his wife nagged him that morning.

2002 I was busted for teaching in an illegal hagwan. (No e-2 of course.) Anyway I was not deported I was given an EXIT ORDER which I think is more common. There were no restrictions on re-entry..In fact all my stuff was here so I just did a quick "visa run." Actual deportation I suppose would be different...By the way the fine was 700K--school paid most of it-they were good about it...They hold your passport until the fine is paid.

How can they "give you an exit order" (kick you out of the country) and "hold your passport until the fine is paid?" Don't you need your passport to "exit" or do a "quick visa run?"

By the way, the school hired you illegally and then paid "most of" the fine for getting caught. How is that being good about anything? They made you pay some of the fine for them hiring them illegally!!!!

It happens, but it's not common. It's easier to just flag your passport on their computers.

I like the op's idea; if we all do privates and get caught are they going to deport us all?
