I make 3,000,000 above my regular salary of 4,000,000 (ps & as program) from local privates. I live in a small city and everyone knows about them from word of mouth. No problems and none anticipated. |

It's funny how some people who would probably be upset by illegal activity in thier own country, have no problem promoting it in the country they're visiting.
Nice. |

Funny thing is, the people I know who have been busted, fined and/or deported have almost all gone on to actually DO something with their lives. One went to law school, one went to a famous culinary arts school, and one started his own legal company.
The bottom line is that baby sitting/teaching or running around to companies is great when you're young and cash starved, but it's not very rewarding career wise. It is, however, easy to get into a well paid rut and never pursue you're dreams. That sounds cheesy, but when you get older, it's a factor.
So I would look at privates as a kind of joint venture between you and Korea, and every joint venture needs an exit strategy! |

So true. During the big immi fake degree bust two years ago, one Canadian was quoted on Canadian news saying that they put him in with all the normal illegal aliens (jail). Why was he put in with a bunch of Thais and Fillipinos who were in the country working illegally? All he did was try to teach English without a degree. If I could have found that white guy, I would have punched the idiot very hard. |

Well for those who were caught or know someone....how do you figured they were fingered?....the only ways I've heard is
1. Stayed too long on a tourist visa/immi got suspicious(thanks Canadians ;()
2. Pissed off Haggie boss/girlfriend/employer/someone who then reported them.
3. Were farmed out to do Privates by a haggie boss who then got caught for various thing.
Other things I've heard....Suspicious, foreigner hating door man reports you(big MAYBE).
One guy a few months ago says he was caught and then was told he would be let off the fine if he turned in some other foreigners doing privates....which he did. Might have been a troll however...
I also suppose not looking like a waegook doing privates might help(big back pack, hiking boots as opposed to suit and tie).
Lastly, if caught, couldn't you say it was a language exchange? Those aren't illegal right? |

I have "a friend" who has openly paid apartments to post flyers for students. Never a problem. The security guards are very friendly. They are there to be of service to the residents. If stopped, my "friend" is just visiting Korean friends or friends of in-laws to help out the kids. But never stopped and always treated kindly by the guards and residents.
"He's" tutored for 3 years on an E-2, and now several months on an F-2. Never a problem. The students families are really friends of the family. |

| The only people I know who have gotten busted have gotten busted at a hagwon teaching without a visa. I don't know of anyone who has been busted actually doing private tutoring. And usually the people who do get in trouble are people working at a hagwon which has had past problems with immi. |
