What books would you recommend as a follow-up to the "English Time" series. I am thinking that "Side by Side" might be a good one for 5th or 6th grade students.
I have read a lot of people like "Interchange" but is that book too advanced for 5th and 6th grade students?
Any suggestions would be great! |

Try getting something geared to kids their own age.
Open House
or something like that. But I'm not sure another grammar based course is what you should be after, maybe a reading book or two would be good.
Very Easy True Stories, Easy True Stories, True Stories, More True Stories
What a World, Reading Advantage, Can You Believe it?, etc. There are tons of them.
Go to your local Kim and Johnson's and choose somthing you feel would be level appropriate.
Just some ideas. You know your students better than anyone, so don't be afraid to disagree with my suggestions. |

Side by Side book 1 might be too easy
Side by Side book 2 increases in difficulty too fast
Haven't even tried book 3 |

I agree with Juregen with book 2, but I use other material with the book. Book 3 is ok, but I found students at the book 3 level need to talk more out of the book than just repeat sentence patterns.
With that said, the newest edition is better and if I get higher level students I might give them the choice and mix it with other material. |

I taught Side By Side a long time ago, but I can't remember which one, or to what age group. I have taken a look at it at the bookstore though, and I thought it looked good. I will have to take a look at book 2 closely to see if it is appropriate.
What about the Let's Go series? Any experience? I was thinking of flip-flopping between English Time 1, Let's Go 1, English Time 2, Let's Go 2 etc... But then after level 6 of each book, I'm out of ideas.
There are so many books out there to choose from, but many of them are organized poorly. |

Ah. I thought you meant "Follow up to English Teacher Time".
(In which case it would be this.) |

At a hagwon I used to work at, students did the Open House series after completing English Time. Open House book 1 was too easy, so they started with book 2. After completing the Open House series, students would do the Can You Believe It series. Can You Believe It is less structured than other books, which I liked because it meant I could be more flexible and creative in the way I taught the materials. |

English Time is actually what was supposed to replace Let's Go. They are practically the same series, exept that English Time is a lot better and the songs are different. I always used Let's Go as in-between books. After about book three of both series, the content pretty much coincides perfectly by number level. If you kids need some review after English Time 3, for example, try using Let's Go 3 before moving onto English Time 4. |

That is a good idea. I have never taught the "Can You Believe It" series. I will have to go to the bookstore and give it a read through. |
