I listened to approximately half of it. I can tell you, Five Eagles, that most of my colleagues in the social sciences agree with W. Ayers. Some of them go much further than he. And I think that most posters here probably feel the same way.

They probably do not get the objection to the association.

Finally, a good reason to vote for Obama!

I haven't looked at the Ayers youtube clips, but I am very familiar with him as a very educated professor of Education, who contributes enormously to the field of Education and Education Reform.

Being that both Ayers and Obama have done significant work with Education and Education Reform in Chicago, it is not real surprise that their paths would cross.

five eagles, you tried this on another thread and were shot down. I didn't see you respond when you were proved wrong.

You are grasping, desperately, as are most conservatives this time around.

Bush and McCain

If you're serious, I mean really serious,
about protecting America, then we need to know
the full extent of their relationship. After all, Bush did set the country on fire and drive it off a cliff into a pit of doo doo.

Thanks for the post. I think I gained some more knowledge and respect for Ayers. No surprise to some, I suppose. How ya doing, Joo, Goofer. Laughing

Somehow I don't think you'll be saying the same thing for those who bomb abortion clinics.

William Ayers' subsequent accomplishments do not change the fact that in the 60s & 70s, he was a spoiled, privileged child playing activist using live munitions as toys. His all too real temper tantrums caused people's deaths.

As I recall from reading a rather short and overpriced book about Weatherman, there were very few casualties resulting from their bombing campaign, and a good percentage of the dead were actually Weathermen who died during a bomb-making accident. Do you have any information about deaths attributable to Ayers?

Obviously, casualties or no, the bombing campaign was quite irresponsible, especially given that some of the targets(eg. the policeman's statue in Chicago) were of no strategic significance whatsoever.

Ah, it appears that the deaths were police officers from another Weatherman who had allied with another revolutionary group.

Kuros, I think you've either left words out here, or used the wrong words. Would you care to clarify you're meaning?

One of the members later joined another group that ended up killing police officers during a Brinks robbery gone bad and is now serving a life sentence in jail. While he feels culpable for the deaths of the officers, he also feels hes a political prisoner who shouldnt be in jail.

According to that article...

Quote:
When their movement changed from protest and activism to violence and terrorism, they initially sought to target and kill placid whites to wake them up. However a miswired bomb killed three of their group and the remaining members decided that the violence against civilians was the wrong tact to take. Of the twenty something bombings the group carried out, the only deaths were those three.

Of course, as I said, blowing anything up is pretty questionable behaviour, since it's kind of hard to be absolutely certain that no innocent people are going to get killed.
