so my case gets a little complicated after I finish my contract which is in a month. End of November i'll be done with my school, so i have two weeks left in the country.....
the thing is i got married back in january, and did not switch my visa cuz I was on E2 already. You need to get your military dependent visa so called SOFA stamp in your passport which allows you to stay as a resident here until you leave. I asked this when I was at the immigration, and they told me to come back and apply for the visa after I got married....well i didnt, cuz I was already working and thought i'd lose the benefits of severance etc if i had switched to SOFA visa....so now my E2 will expire, in dec. and i will need to fly out..
then I need to come back to Korea, cuz my husband is not leaving till the end of February 2009......
I told my stupid manager, ( she's soooo stupid, all parents hate her, and I think she's shady!!) that they could book my flight for February when it's time for us to leave... Confused

Her freaking excuse today, was that , it's way too later than the time I finish my contract, cuz i wont be listed as their teacher anymore.....\
haa?? what " listed as" well, you guys owe me a ticket.....Why should it matter WHEN i am flying out? Especially when I CAN STAY HERE LEGALLY, with a new visa.....?

I think she is trying to get out of buying a ticket, cuz I raised an issue during our staff meeting about the previous teacher who had left in April and still hasn't got her deposit yet..... She had left 5 months ago!!? so I mentioned it couple of people, and they raised eyebrows and said we should bring it up during the meeting.... I said we could, and mentioned what 's the update about her, cuz she emailed me.... etc .... the coordinator said that she didnt give right banking details etc, and blah blah....

So someone must have mentioned that I am asking questions, and she said she overheard me talking about if i dont get paid or such and such, i'll complain the school or whatever ( all teachers were curious at the meeting when i mentioned that the person emailed me, and she was just asking the details about her MONEY!? ) BTW , they pay our deposits back like a month later?! i dont even live in their apartments, i live with my husband!? i dont pay any bills, have no FINANCIAL CONNECTION WITH THE freaking school !! this was my first hassle with her when she said it's the regulations, it's the policy, !!... she still deducted money out of my check!? i spoke with her boss, head manager, on the phone, and he said, he understands what SHE was saying, and she's being precautious cuz there was a runner and they dont the same happening...blah blah....

anyhow, so now the flight ticket is an issue......today, i spoke to her, and she wasnt even trying to find or suggest any other way to help me... she says, we have to fly out when OUR CONTRACTS finish....
well, i am and i will, but dont need to cuz I can switch to a visa that can allow me to say....

i even mentioned if they could book a ticket, and i would later on change the date and pay the penalty, she said, those tickets are expensive, they are open tickets?!?!? Shocked like what the f.....then?! how am i getting a tcket?! and WHY DO I NEED TO FLY SOMEWHERE, when i can switch to a visa , legally, and fly end of february!?!?!
I dont have to pay for flight tickets... back and forth back and forth!?

Twisted Evil
once i get the SOFA visa, i can stay in korea...which takes couple of weeks, but i can wait here while they process it..... without having to fly anywhere.... that's what the immigration told me.... so, all i was asking was, to book the ticket for february, instead of december?!

that also means, i cant go to the pension office and file papers?! like she's trying to screw me both ends or something..... all she was saying , was, " well , sorry but it's your problem, you wanna leave in february, why dont you go somewhere, like vietnam, or thailand , take a break...."

I said " I don't need a break, i don't have money to travel, and fly back here again... then pay another ticket to fly to States... ( military doesnt cover my ticket yet, cuz I was not on his orders when he came here... they will get me a ticket to Europe from States when we visit his family in March...) i dont know what she's trying to do......

i have two options..... i think.....i'll get a ticket and go see my family, and come back (we are planning to go to Thailand with my husband on dec. 23rd....)that's another dilemma....

If I fly out say on Dec. 3rd to see my family, return the ARC at the airport, i'll come back on a tourist visa, but mention that I'll be applying to a visa....go to thailand on the 23rd, and get my SOFA visa, they will see that i have my military id card, guess it should be ok....and i'll go to pension office once i get ticket to States, ( i am canadian my husband is planning to see his family once we leave here then from states we are going to our next assignment, in Europe...)

I need to get my military visa before we leave Korea, otherwise, i 'll get in trouble in States......

it's not complicated , but she's making a big deal... i am so frustrated with her, i dont even wanna talk to her..... if i talk to my coworkers, she blames me for fueling everyone about the school, etc, like I am being a troublemaker or something .. she wants me to kiss her you know what, and pretend I LOVE HER, bow etc, so she 'll give me what i want.... i was like , i don't need to negotiate anything here.... .flight ticket is in my contract..... you owe me a ticket, all i am saying is book it for february.....period....well, the head office said it's a date AFTER YOU COMPLETE YOUR CONTRACT?!!? HAAAAAAAAAA?????????????

PLEASE GOD HELP !

p.s. sorry if i have any spelling mistakes, it's 3 am and i dont wanna capitalize I's....... Sad((

What does your contract say about airfare at the end of the contract?

Current PS contracts (at least the ones I've seen) state you must leave within ten days of the end of the contract in order to be eligible for airfare.

Contract says airfare will be given at the end of the contract....but I heard people negotiating their flights even after they leave Korea, on their own terms come back and get a flight back home...!? like 3 months out of Korea, come back and get a ticket back home....

I can fly in December but I wanted to get the ticket for February....I mean they can book a ticket where I can change the date, can't they??

Buy a refundable ticket.
Get them to reimburse you. (you may have to squabble over it a bit but stand firm)/
AFTER you get reimbursed..refund your ticket and do what you want.

Tom called it. Go with his advice or get a ticket from them now that you can 'cash in' for money you'll use to replace the ticket later.

Don't let them buy the ticket. They will put it on their credit card. You won't be able to refund it and quite possibly, depending on the airline, won't be able to exchange it.

AS a specific example: Korean air for example won't exchange a ticket. They will refund it and then sell you the new one - and if it was bought on a credit card the refund is credited back to the card - not paid out in cash or used as a credit toward the new ticket.

Good point. I'm stuck in "public school, government budget" mode, where credit cards aren't used.

Actually, they are.

Your school admin office has a C/C that they often use for incidental expenses and things like YOUR outbound airticket (if you don't pay for it and then get reimbursed).

They typically have a 5 million won limit. I have used our school's C/C many times for little stuff like field trips or postage for the school's pen-pal program.

I dont really trust her about the reimbursement.... then she'll say i didnt ask them when i was buying a refundable ticket, blah blah blah, it's my fault whatever...

I was thinking, i'll try and get an extension on my visa ( it expires on dec.11th, we r flying out to Thailand on the 23 rd, when I come back I'll have 6 months time anyway in the country, i'll get my A3 visa, and tell her that I can work in January, and they can get me the ticket for february..... but that means i wont see my pension after I leave....
I was trying to get the money before I leave.... guess my friend can wire it to me.... such a hassle.....

uggggh...hate these situations..... they are soo good at tricking us, I wanna do the same and negotiate the way they do!!!!! foxes!!! Confused

I suggested I could try to find a cheaper ticket that I could change the date to february, she said try....let's talk on monday....

My English department isn't really part of my college. It's sort of an 'experiment' set up by the college, so it's in kind of a 'no man's land'. Funds come from the president's petty cash drawer. There could be a CC used, but I've never seen it, nor has anyone heard of a CC being used here to pay for expenses, at least in my department.
