| I think neither one is true necessarily. We all see people how we want to see them. In some respect McCain is a hero (those that can't believe I said that feel free to faint). In other respects, he has done things including painting Obama as Anti-American, which is disrespectful. Do I think Obama's perfect, no. |

| This is a radical board where many of the posters given a choice would see McCain dead than Ayatollah Ali Khamani. |

McCain's not a villain. What he is, is an incompetent politician trying to run a negative campaign. Now, if he were running this campaign competently, people would see the nastiness, but they would also see the effectiveness, and he would garner a certain respect(grudging in some cases, to be sure) for his political skills and acumen. As it stands, though, all people are seeing is the nastiness, because there has so far been no tactical payoff.
As a comparison, imagine a comedian goes on stage, and tells the most revolting, scatological joke ever heard, and manages to bring down the house with it. The critics will hail the guy as a comic genius. But if another comedian goes on, tells a similar joke, and nobody laughs, he'll get written off as a foul-mouthed old hack. McCain is the comedian who keeps telling the same revolting, scatological joke over and over again, long after it's become apparent that no one is laughing. |

You should know that is true as you are one of the most radical right-wingers on it. |

That's just not true. I haven't seen Joo advocate a conservative social position (anti-gay marriage, pro-abortion, or even pro-Drug War) on this board ever. |

Gopher.
I'm gonna tell you honestly. I thought you had a lot of integrity with your posts. You still do. But, you have become soooo mainstream. What's this new avatar?
It doesn't suit.
I just saw a little of that thread on the other page and there is a hostility that comes out that you can't shake off from others and you are not expressing yourself.
If I think when the change occured it was when that melancholic fester filled your left side of the screen. Although I dislike Nicholson, and had aimed insults as much to him as much to anything in your topic, please go back to him. The touching Obama photo is revolting.
I always thought you were a hard core Republican. Now it seems you are a namby pamby.
Obama looks like a fag in that photo.
Hey, is that the real reason you are using him? |

You do mean anti-abortion, don't you?
He is certainly extreme right wing or downright neocon when it comes to defense and national security issues.
Anyway, the comment was made somewhat tongue-in-cheek. |

As a long-time reader of Joo, I will also observe that he is not anti-Muslim, and has in fact argued on numerous occassions that the problems in the middle east stem from the effects of alien western-style ideologies(baathism etc), not from anything inherent in the Muslim religion.
He has also stated that he believes in tolerance towards gays and lesbians, though I'm not sure of his views on any specific gay-related issue. |

Cheonmunka: thank you for your post. I like this shot of a pensive B. Obama and like to hope it reveals something about how he will approach the responsibilities that are about to devolve onto him.
As far as my earlier position on this thread goes: I saw four pics in a university building: B. Obama, J. Biden, J. McCain, and S. Palin. Guess which ones had the usual "devil" and "demon" marks penciled onto them? And guess which ones remain untouched?
It is hypocrisy for the left to claim that it is not constructing McCain-Palin as the villain, even in everyday settings like the one I reference, here. |

| Do Americans really see McCain as a villian? I think he is an ok guy, just he'll probably keel over before the end of the next term and would never vote for Sarah Palin. |

When you say 'the left' do you mean every single person who supports the democrats? Is every single one of them constructing McCain-Palin as 'the villain'? How about all the attacks on Obama as a terrorist-sympathizing socialist? Would you say that 'the right' is constructing Obama as a villain? |

Mind backing this up at all?
I mean, do you have any links and quotes to support this? |

He is running a campaign that will not win this election. Perhaps he could not have won given the circumstances that Bobster and Kuros have independently of each other cited here or elsewhere (Republican following W. Bush, etc.). Perhaps he has approached and managed this particular set of problems badly. Perhaps B. Obama simply has run a better campaign. But that does not matter to the point I would address here.
I would not call J. McCain "an incompetent politician" any more than I would call a football team that loses the Superbowl the same thing. McCain retired as a Navy captain. Do you think the Navy gives such ranks away? Then he won two terms in the House, followed by four terms in the Senate. He has been a leading Senator and his name as a presidential candidate has come up more than once.
In any case, I wish you would reconsider reducing J. McCain to "an incompetent politician," comparable to a comedian no one laughs with. If he were a comedian in your hypothetical club, I think he would solidly have at least forty percent of the audience, On the Other Hand. Not exactly the sound of silence. |
