Just curious. The stereotype is that most cruises are full of retired folk, but I know they now have them for singles. I wonder if you could catch a leg of a cruise from here and go to Thailand or Indonesia, or some tropical area. I also heard that they have 24 hour buffets. I would gain some weight Smile

I went on a cruise in the Caribbean with family and it was like purgatory. Some people really like them because they're highly organised, and you can do things like shop, gamble, and eat as much as you want.

There were all kinds of people on the ship...oldies, loads of kids, and everyone in between. If you want to avoid this, there are adults-only cruises...but in all reality, I thought it sucked and would not suggest it for anyone that doesn't like joining, participating, or doing any group-oriented activities.

The only pros were that I got to see a few places that I'd love to return to, and I had a wicked time with my family (mostly spent taking the piss out of the whole trip).

Clientelle depends on the line you choose. I didn't feel bothered by any organized activities on the 2 cruises I've been on.

Carnivale, for example, in the Caribbean was very young. It was a while ago but i distinctly remember it was not like the first cruise I took with Royal Caribbean. That was a geriatric nightmare.

Both were amazing on the whole. The food was not only abundant in quantity, but it was truly amazing... every meal... and each buffet was like a work of art. All the food was sculpted and presented in some extravagant manner.
Midnight buffets... i mean you never thought you'd be that hungry at midnight but....

It was really cool waking up at a different island every morning too.

I've gone on two cruises with my family. One for my paternal grandparents' 50th anniversary, and one for their 60th. For one I was still pretty young, the second I was in high school. Both were around the caribbean. One on the west side, the other on the east side.

I liked it, but I think the main downside is that you barely spend any time at the ports (at least the cruises I was on). It was awesome going up on deck at night and watching the waves in the darkness.. you can see the ones right up against the ship, but then you look up and everything else is dark.

The food was pretty good, but they must waste a ton with having food 24 hours. I wish they wouldn't do that, actually. They must go through a ton of food.

While the cruise was fun, I much prefer vacations where I can spend more time in places I visit. One or two days is nothing! But then it depends on what you like.

If what you want is to eat lots of good food and to go to a tropical area nearish here, why not just hop a flight and buy good food? Cruises are pretty expensive.
