You won't find BIG pet stores here, but lots of small ones clustered together. Head towards Toegyero. Chungmuro station is the closest. There are a bunch of stores there that carry your run of the mill animals.

If you're looking for more interesting fare, check out the exotic pet strip on Chungyechun near Dongdaemun.

What do you mean by "exotic"? Can you give good, detailed directions to the exact strip?

Go to Dongdaemoon, find Cheonggyecheon, and head east a block or two. It's on the north side.

Bring a compass.

If you wanna buy an animal do NOT buy in Chungmuro or the other pet markets. First all the animals are all incrediblely undernourished, disease ridden and horrifically taken care off. I feel aweful seeing these animals. I have a few friends that have bought dogs and cats there and they have all died or needed very expensive treatment.

I recommend forking over the extra cash and buy from a reputable pet shop. Save you a lot of money in the long run.

Two words: puppy mills!

Yes, they have the same situations for other animals. Those places are horrible, and so many of the puppies in the shop windows are WAY too young to have been weaned and such. Those places look so depressing.

If you're lucky enough to have an apartment that allows pets (unlike some of us) there are tons of animals needing adoption.
