I recieved my exit order in the mail last week. It clearly states that I must leave Korea on Nov 25. The trouble is, I have to work on Nov 25....til 11pm. I've already booked my flight for the following day.

I called immi (1345) and was told to apply online for an extension. Here's my concern. My manager is INSISTING that I don't need to apply for an extension. I asked him to email me my e-ticket. He says that all E2 holders automatically get a 30-day extension. In fact, he seems offended that I wanna apply for an extension. He told me that the women I spoke to on the phone didn't know what she was talking about.

He is obviously talking out of his arse. WHY? They pulled some sketchy shit with overtime calculations for summer intensive. I had told them that I'd stay for another year. After the OT fiasco, I told them to shove it. I wouldn't be surprised if his insistance that I don't get an extension is part of some grand plan to f**k me over at the last minute. Why else would he mislead me in such a way.

Obviously I'm applying for an extension, but I'm thinking that maybe I should change my departure date. 10 days maybe. Any thoughts. Am I being paranoid?

First, Doesn't matter what your VISA says. The only thing that matters is what your ARC card says. Could be earlier, could be later. You do not get an automatic 30 day extension, you have to apply for it.

Did you get an EXIT ORDER or just a reminder from immigration that your exit date is the 25th?

IF you just got a reminder, take your airticket in to the immigration office and get an extension. IT is free and only takes a few minutes (unless there is a long line at the counter).

You can also do it on-line and it is free (but you will have to fax them copies of your ticket, arc and passport).

IF you actually got an EXIT ORDER then you cannot get an extension and MUST be cleared through passport control no later than midnight on the date in question.

Ttompatz. Maybe it's not an exit order after all. It's titled 'Advance Notice of Expiration of you Stay'.

My boss is still being slippery. He insists that I don't need to apply for an extension, and he still hasn't e-mailed me my e-ticket.

I just have this bad feeling that their gonna pull some serious underhand shit on my last day.

Demand your e-ticket, bring all your stuff to immigration and get the extension. That's what you have to do, everything stated by others in this thread is pretty much true. I recently had to get my visa extended by ONE DAY. The immigration guy smiled when he saw I only wanted it extended by a day, but it has to be done.

Looks like your soon to be old boss is not looking out for your best interests. Yep, you gotta go to an immigration office soon or leave on the 25th. Otherwise, you get a 100,000 cash fine at the airport and a black mark on your immigration record which makes you do consulate interviews at HOME should you ever apply for a Korean visa in the future.

The online facility is well dodgy and unreliable (in my experience). Best to get someone to call and make you an appointment and do it in person.

1. Go to immigration and explain your situation, bring all copies of your relevant documentation, except for your e-ticket, which you don't have.

2. Ask immigration to phone your boss directly. Right there, in front of you, ask them to phone your boss and ask them to tell them what they told you.

3. ?????

4. If immi stamps your ARC, fine. If not, your exit date is the 25th, not the 26th. Immigration will make this clear to your boss.

Where is your e-ticket?
Boss says I don't need one.
Well you need one.
<produce handphone, dial number> Please tell him that.

It's very simple. The immi site has an online application. You can extend for a few days no probs. You supply all your info and a scan jpg/gif of your ticket. Immi generates a document a few days later which you print out.

Or I'm sure you can pop by one of the immigration sites. Just have your ticket with you.

You do have to exit on the day immi says you have to exit. You don't have any grace. Trust me on this one. The airline won't even let you check in unless you have the temporary visa extension. Trust me on that one too.

And if you get the extension document from the web site, the check-in desk chick might not even know what it is and try to send you to immigration for a stamp. Don't let them do that.

But your boss won't give you a copy of your e-ticket? I mean not to even look at?

Take all your paper work down to immigration and try to get your temp extension even though you don't have a ticket in hand. If they refuse, ask them to write a note in Korea to your boss explaining what exactly you need.

Do you know which airline you're flying with?

Call the airline up and just ask them to send you the ticket directly.

Yes. A while back my boss gave me a paper copy of what he says was my e-ticket. At the time, there was no reason to doubt him.

I just called the airline. They have NO RESERVATION in my name. The girl's English wasn't great. So, I just asked a K friend of mine to call the airline on my behalf and double check. If she confirms what they told me, I'm gonna call him out.

When he was insistant that I didn't need a visa ext'n, I was suspicious. Now I am very worried that these guys are gonna try to screw me.

I have 28 days left, so they'd have to accuse me of something terrible to get away with firing me.

I keep y'all posted. I have a feeling I'm gonna be needing advice.

Clearly you need an extension on your visa or risk paying a fine, even if you exit the next day. Your boss is plain wrong about that. He gave you an e-ticket? Do you still have that e-ticket? To get a plane ticket you need to supply a name and passport number. Did your boss ever request your passport detail shortly before purchasing the ticket?

If you can find that paper, take it to immigration and get your extension. Then deal with it from there.

At this point, repeat this mantra:

Koreans just do everything at the last possible minute, it's not necessarily a sign my boss is out to screw me over.

That said, if you go all the way to the airport and can't board a plane, you can come back and sit in your hagwon lobby with all your luggage until your boss gets you a proper exit.

And remember if you have a real ticket in hand and a proper exit visa and your boss screws you over, you can always trash your apartment. Cut the cables off the appliances, remove the wires from the thermostat.

Or, here's a thought, you could go to immigration and have them talk to your boss directly. Saves you from being a go-between, and uhhh...you don't need scissors.
