I may have to get a CRC ASAP. Who has done it from here and how? HOw long did it take?

I know it was quite easy when in Van.

The whole low-down would be nice.

Do you still need one for sure to get a new Visa(new employer) if you haven't been back to Canada? Seems these rules change quite often.

I got mine done pretty quick. Depends on how quickly you and someone back home get to work and move on it. You don't even need fingerprints.

E-mail a Word doc back home to a family member. This doc must contain 2 scanned copies of picture ID along with personal info like hair/eye color, date of birth, height and weight (maybe), place of birth, etc. (I can't remember all those details, but I could get back to you on that - anyway, nothing much).

A family member back home takes this doc to have it sworn in at the Commissioner of Oaths (to swear that it's you).

Family member then takes it to IFS (International Fingerprint Services) who then send it to have it processed. Takes 4 business days to process it although this could be different for you. Mine was sent to a family member in Montreal and IFS in Montreal sent it to Charlottetown to be processed.

After IFS receives it, it can then be shipped to you by whatever courier you need.

Upon receipt of the criminal certificate (that's what it's called), you then take it to the Canadian Embassy not too far from Seodaemun Station where you swear an affidavit that it's you.

Presto! You have your criminal certificate.

Costs may be different now, but it was 75 bucks for IFS to process it and it another 75 to swear the affidavit at the embassy.

Probably a minimum of 5 to 7 to a maximum of 10 to 14 days to get it all done. Depends on how quickly whoever back home gets on it and which courier you use. Ends up costing a bit, but worth it in the long run. My school paid for it to be shipped (FedEX or something), so it was 150 bucks in total for me. Might've cost the school around 80 bucks to get it here in a couple of business days.

Check first if immigration will still allow this kind of criminal report, but I did this in June and it was A OK.

Cool... thanks alot...

So as far as you know, you do still need one even if you haven't been back? That's the same logic i'm leaving my job because of.

Yes, you will need it.

Here's the info you need to send to a family member back home. Then they take it to the Commissioner of Oaths, etc:

You need to send scanned copies of two pieces of PHOTO ID, your address, place of birth, colour of your eyes and your height. Prepare this on a Word doc, preferably in colour so that the photo ID will be legible (visible ... ). Make sure the scanned IDs are big enough and not blurry so they can be read.

I'm not sure if it needs to be a family member. Maybe not. Also, check with IFS at a location where you will be sending this document. It should all be fine, but hopefully the Commissioner of Oaths and IFS are close to each other and close to whomever you're sending this too. You must think about that.

I hope, too, that immigration still accepts this type of criminal report. Like I said, I didn't do mine too long ago (back in June). It should be fine, though. Probably no worries. It has to be sworn in at your embassy, so... Just covering my ass just in case. But really. It's a perfectly acceptable document because it worked for me. It's official and everything. IFS is recognized by the RCMP, etc.

I would do it this way.

Right on... will look into it...

Did you use 2 pieces of Canadian ID? The only pic ID I have is a passport, Korean driver's licence (which I guess I could get back if I had to), ARC and an ISIC card... A little risky?

I would imagine June is recently enough. But, you never know with laws (suggestions) here.

I don't know if this will help, but I was trying to figure out the same thing as you back in July.

Someone posted this site somewhere on Dave's:

http://www.winnipeg.ca/police/BPR/info_request.stm#crim_record_search

Apparently it was accepted at the Cdn Embassy in Seoul and also by immigration. But I DID NOT do this myself (I came home), and so I can't recommend it, but I still had the bookmark so I'm throwing it out here in hopes it'll jog some memories of people who have successfully used this.

Good luck.

If you live in a small town where everyone knows everyone and people are reasonable about things, just get your parents (as long as they have power of attorney) to go into the local municipal police station and they can do absolutely everything for you, and quite likely have it off to you the next day. You don't need anything else if you have someone with power of attorney.

They might have to pay 50.00, but you can pay them back. You don't need to send ID or anything... just tell them to mention that you're in a bit of a hurry-- the people I dealt with were very accommodating.

This what I did, and it was extremely easy. Including the FedEx time, the whole thing including the trip to Seoul took under a week.

Thanks again for those 2 last ones. Small towns, eh? My dad lives in one. Will look into the power of attorney thing.

Seems, though, that disatser has been averted and I don't need it ASAP.
