Beer....making your own beer is easy and delicious, but not the cheapest hobby in Korea (but still cheaper than buying it). If you are trying to save money, then brewing your own beer isn't something you should take up (especially if you burn through 20+ liters a week like I am apparently doing).

I can't help it, I live more in the moment. But the hair thing is not bad b/c I have blonde hair so I go to Zen hair salon and they have to get the brassy color out every month. Thank god their are no drugs in Korea or else I would be really screwed. But Korea is really expensive, a beer is expensive, electronics, tampons are like 9,000 won for a small little box. I jsut overlap my birhtcontrol b/c its cheaper.

In days long gone, for about a 3 year period, I spent about 1,500,000 on beer, buying beer for others, taxis, dry cleaners, eating out, some comfort food. Now all that is long gone. I'm a saving and investing machine! Before the two above ways, I paid back some money, and delt with being a new face in Korea, which doesn't lead to great savings.

I don't know, what do teachers make now, about 2.5? I'm a copy editor, so I've lost touch.

I think it's perfectly normal to be able to live quite well, take vacations to fabulous destinations like Thailand, China, and the Philippines, and save 10 mil a year, making 2.5 a month, provided you get bonus summer and winter overtime pay. I mean, with paid housing, dinner for free most days, it's do-able. The paid housing is a real bonus.

I budget 100,000 during the week (a lot of meals out and a lot of taxis) and 150,000 on the weekend. This would be easy to stick to if it wasn't for my poker loses.

I don't think it's possible to live in Seoul for 10,000 a day.

As it is, I send home at least 1,500,000 a month. I tried to be on a tight budget for August and September, but then have started to go crazy again. It's just like going on a diet. Easy to stick to for awhile and then you go nuts.

There's a Forever 21 and a Zara in Myeongdong. How can I not blow the bank now? Plus Long Island Iced teas can run up to 10,000 a pop.

Street shopping as well. Shoes, earrings, and now winter fun like scarfs, and of course purses...

the c's are bad. avoid the c's. basically from most to least expensive.

-eating out almost every lunch and dinner
-poker several nights a week at Phillies (OP, I reckon I know you. Are you my polar opposite opponent? lol). I do alright at the tables, but spend a boatload on beer and taxis
