That's right, TMKATM...Too bad you were not there. Maybe I will meet you somewhere else though? |

| When I lived in Ansan the place was an armpit; the worst air pollution outside of Seoul. The one redeeming feature was the downtown area; some decent bars and the most neon you'll see in one small place. Like most Korean cities, it looks better by night. |

The pollution gets a lot worse than Ansan. Incheon and parts of Bucheon are worse in my opinion, and anyway you get used to not being able to breath after a few weeks.
I like Ansan a lot to be honest. It's slightly annoying getting into Seoul, but at least we are on a good subway line.
If I was staying for another contract, I wouldnt stay in Ansan (id move closer to the centre of Seoul), but if you aint too bothered about getting home from Hongdae/Sinchon/Itaewon at all hours of the morning then the distance probably wont be too much of a problem.
As for expats, there are a few of us in the Handaep/Jungang/Sangnoksu area that used to drink in Habana regularly but they seem to have barred the rowdy waygooks for now so we are looking for a new watering hole. Anyang isnt far, and that has a good waygook bar, as does Beomgye.
Anyway, there are plenty of people up for a few bevvies and most people seem to know each other round these parts so you shouldnt have too much trouble meeting people and making friends.
Good luck at kids herald. |

I'd be interested in an Ansan get-together.
An-yang way-gooks get together quite regularly. They even run their own message board.
We could perhaps join them.
My thoughts are that Gojan is quite far. Make sure this place is near the subway.

gojan is two stations in-bound from ansan... thats hardly too far!
the bar with the free pool table is 5 minute's walk from the station. opposite carrefour. its called "hazzi" and is on the 3rd floor of a building that also houses the overpriced "il bar".
PM me any time yu wanna meet there.
every friday night there is a bunch of ansan esl-ers there. how about this friday? |

Wouldn't that almost be closer to Jungang station? |

Okay. I live closer to Handaeap station myself, but go to Carrefour several times a week. It's never seemed too far away, even to walk from my place (and since I got my motorcycle, it's quite close).
I've never actually been to Gojan station, only ridden past it. I stick more to my home (Sa-dong) and work (Songpo-dong) areas when I'm hanging around Ansan. I'll have to come check out the bar sometime soon, as the "expat bar" in Handaeap (Habana) seems to only get a crowd on Thursdays anymore. I think most of the folks in my neighborhood have taken to going into Seoul on Friday and Saturday nights. |

Any foreign teachers been getting together recently?
When I'm back in Korea the end of this month I'd be in for a get-together.

I've only been here three weeks, but I like Habana. I've only seen a bunch of foreigners there once. Some of us have gotten on a friendly basis with the ajumma and the waitresses, so they don't make us pay per pitcher like they do other waygooks. From what I've heard, they have been wary of foreigners since some have skipped out on hefty tabs.
I've seen Yuppy from the street, but I haven't ventured in yet.
So far, though, I like Ansan. It's not too close and not too far from Seoul. Okay, it's pretty far. But it's my 'hood now.
I would like to know where a few more foreigner hangouts are in the area. PM me or email me. |
