. . . of course they booked a flight without consulting me first.
Anyhow, I think I've got a good idea of things to do. But I have one problem- I'd like to go somewhere for the weekend (November 29-30), just a short trip from the Seoul metro area. Somewhere different. Coastal would be cool.
Here's the thing, plenty of places come to mind- Incheon islands, Boryeong, Gangwon-do, etc. . . . but in November?
Any ideas? They're not super-outdoorsy people and are looking to relax and take in some culture more than anything else (culture, according to my dad, means eating live octopus, not traditional dance or anything of that sort . . .). I'd be really interested in any places that offer deep sea fishing or cruises . . .
Help?
Thanks,

You can go deep sea fishing in sokcho gangwon do. Are you going to have a korean with you or do you speak korean? There are some nice motels by the beach and several nice temples around.
I haven't done deep sea fishing here but I grabbed the card when I was eating at the restaurant. This what the card says
1호 양 MㅣLㅔ 횟집
활어장 033 672 5560 010 3343
미박 033 672 4619 017 376
낚시배 033 672 4619 011 376 4618
어성호 낚시배 기본 5만원 1인 2만원 (6명정원)
hope it helps |

My sister is coming next week, I'm happy but I have to work most days.
She'll go on the DMZ tour, and I told her about my favorite spots in Seoul:
-City Hall and surrounding temples (Deoksugung, Gyenogbokgung)
-Leeum Samsung Art Gallery
-Insadong and surrounding area (Jongno 3-ga)
-Dongdaemun market
-Gangnam, Coex Mall
-Hongdae
-Apkujeong for nice cafes and architecture |

Oh, and as for a weekend trip, I suggest Seoraksan, but if your parents are not really oudoors-y it might not be the best. However, the sights and beautiful and they might enjoy Sokcho and the fish market and the sea. |

In Seoul, when you are working, send them on the Seoul City Bus Tour. It's cheap, easy and has different routes for different tastes.
Take a cab through the Bugaksan skyway, though don't let him go if you stop as no cabs are up there.
Take them to Samcheong-dong.
Take them on a 1 hour night cruise on the Han River. A few different ports to choose from, I always go to Yeoinaru.
Take them to odd/unique bars in Hongdae like the Ice Bar, the Gr8 hookah bar, Nabi or Tin Pan II.
If you want to get out of Seoul, get to Gyeongju, the former kingdom capital. I hit up Busan for a day and a night and Gyeongju for a day when my mom visited. She loved it.
A bus ride down to the Folk Village may be ok, though there is a smaller, closer one called Hanok Village at Chungmuro Station. |

There are some fantastic pensions in and around seokcho. No need for outdoor stuff!
Try this one: http://www.sorakpension.com/ |

Oh, I perhaps should have mentioned that I'm in Suwon, if that changes any of the suggestions. |

You should tell your sister that Deoksugung and Gyeongbokgung are NOT temples but palaces, it'd be embarassing if you were corrected by a first time visitor. Send her to a temple, that'd be nice, too. Send her on a day hiking trip outside Seoul... |

If you drive it's easier.
Instead of DMZ tours I took my dad to the observatory over the Imjin up the Freedom Freeway, then a drive through the northern countryside beyond Munsan.
He went to the War museum also Namsan Tower.
The Han River cruise was excellent and cheap.
Both those taking the subway, though.
He enjoyed just shopping around the local area. He found the department stores and service excellent, despite the severe language differences, speaking in body language. Surprisingly he found the English here to be almost non-existent. |
