I seem to be running out of ideas for lesson plans of late. I'm planning to do a grade 2 middle school lesson on the environment - recycling, overpopulation and such. I'd like to do something that is neither lame nor controversial. Anyone know of any good material online or any good ideas?

overpopulation is very subjective so I would skip that bit.

You could do the three Rs reduce, reuse and recycle

carbon or water forest cycles

endangered animals and reasons causes, rates

food chains/webs, biomagnification (the build up of chemicals in higher trophic levels.

Rivet hypothesis, extinctions.

strange rare animals animal groups (flightless birds on islands you could use NZ as an example kiwi, moa no mammals), deep sea vents, australian ice age mega fauna.

Focus on one group species of animals whales/snakes/torpedo ray
