Hey Guys
I'm due to start a job in Hwaseong, which I'm told is near Suwon, next month.
I was in Ilsan on the last contract and I liked the way there were foreigner frequented bars in Lafesta that allowed one to party on down without going into Seoul.
So how is the ex-pat night life in Suwon? Does it exist? What are the names of the joints I should be heading to? I'm not really into drinking that much I just want to make western contacts in Korea. |

I actually live pretty close to there. Yeongtong seems to be where the most foreigners hang out. Like you I am also not into drinking that much. I have been thinking about starting some kind of meetup group or association for foreigners. |

The biggest foreigner hang out is Now Bar in Yeongtong. Pretty average during the week, but can often be packed on a friday night. Where exactly in Hwaseong will you be? Depending on your location, you could be anything from 20minutes from Suwon station (or Yeongtong, different parts of town), to well over an hour Suwon station and 1hour 20 to Yeongtong, and then add time for traffic |

I would humbly recommend avoiding foreigners and taking advantage of the fact that you live in Korea. If you need to see gigantic people with an aggressively ignorant world-view, the place to go is Nebraska, not Suwon.
But if you must, the two biggest ex-pat bars are Now Bar and Crazy Duck, a club in Ingyedong (central Suwon).
But what do you mean by "Hwaseong?" If I remember correctly, Hwaseong station and Hwaseong city are on opposite sides of Suwon. If you're near Hwaseong station, you're better off going to the area around sogyunggwandae or Anyang. The girls are prettier. |

There's no "Hwaseong" station, so I assume he meant Hwaseong City. If he's by Hwaseo station, then maybe he can try your advice, but you wouldn't want him muscling in on your turf, now would you? |

There are also a load of foreigners hanging out by Sungkyunkwan Universty station. Crazy Duck in Ingye-dong is foreigner central on Friday nights. I've never been to Now Bar but it seems to be much the same deal as Crazy Duck from what i hear. |

i've only been here for a couple months but i can give you my opnion of Now bar and Crazy Duck. if you love loud blaring music, line dancing, and dry humping on the dance floor....check out the crazy duck. if you enjoy conversations, playing pool, darts, or jumping in on one of our impromptu texas hold'em tournaments, then check out now bar. althhough my biggest complaint about now bar is the guys bathroom usually floods...so enter at your own risk. but if you're looking to venture out, suwon is only a 30 min bus ride to gagnamm, which is a nice place to hang out at in seoul. hope this helps and i hope you enjoy suwon. |

I rarely see foreigners in Yeongtong... I don't know why everyone says that |

Really? I always see a few foreigners out here. I live about 5 minutes from Yeongtong Homeplus and there are always few foreigners out.
As to the O.P, I'm not much for the Crazy Duck as I find it too loud and abrasive, but I do enjoy the Now Bar quite a bit.

I started a similar thread last week. If there are some folks new to the area like me, how about we all meet up? For all the people who advise not hanging out with foreigners, I know where you're coming from, but I assume you've been here a while and forget what it's like not to have a real conversation in English for week straight. Anyway, if interested PM me and maybe we can all grab a drink at either of those 2 bars this weekend. |

Been in Suwon about 2 months now. And lets just say the night life is seriously lacking compared to Seoul. Now Bar and The Duck are alright...but nothing special at all. The Duck is somewhat of a GI hangout, but you will also find Korean girls there. Now bar is almost straight up foreigner-ville, though I've only been there a couple times.
I'ma start exploring a bunch more around the station.
Depends on what you want though. You wanna hang out and just chill/drink/talk with foreigners? Suwon ain't bad, as you can hit those bars. Looking to club/dance/etc hop on a 300x bus and head to Gangnam. |

I think we need some more Suwon threads. |

Where are some more hangouts in Suwon, besides the Crazy Duck and Now Bar ? |
