Do you not see the irony in McCain claiming Palin was "thrust" into running while attacking those who claim Palin is unqualified for the post of Veep? I find it really eye opening that Republicans will attack those who knock Palin for being unqualified (and let's face it, she is WOEFULLY unqualified to be vice president), yet McCain will defend the clothing debacle by saying she was "thrust" into it.
Was she not asked?
Did she accept?
If the answer to either question is "YES", then she was not "thrust" into anything, and for McCain to claim otherwise is childish and insulting.
Like I said earlier, this has NOTHING to do with the actual cost of the clothing, but it has everything to do with his response. She's a massive mistake that will (probably) cost him his campaign, but he can't admit that, (or admit anything that looks remotely like he made a mistake), so he'll continue to paint Palin as someone so outside of the Washington system. What a joke.

The point of the story isn't the clothing nor the price of the clothing. It's the reaction. I think $150,000 for clothing is ridiculous, and I think 5.3 for decorations is equally ridiculous.
What struck me about this story was McCain's idiotic notion that somehow the Palin family was "thrust" into a situation they couldn't handle. It's a pathetic, childish and immature answer to the controversy over the clothing.
What strikes me as even more immature is people like yourself trying to deflect that answer. If the Democrats had defended Obama in anyway by claiming he was "thrust" into this position, McCain and the Republicans (and their defenders) would be having a field day and accusing Obama of being unfit to hold office.
Really, what kind of defense is that anyway? To claim she was "thrust" into this situation is insinuating that she's unprepared for it, yet if anyone attacks Palin by claiming she's unprepared for the office of V.P, McCain and the Republicans froth at the mouth.

Wonderful argument there. I don't hear the Democrats defending their stage by claiming Obama was "thrust" on to it.

so 150K for clothes is bad but 5.3 million for a stage is ok?
I don't here any criticism of the democrats for spending money on that?
What do you think about 5.3 million for a decoration? |

I have never busted on Obama for stuff like that. |

Well I can see your point.
Nevertheless there are more important things that McCain excuse for why he selected Palin.
And Yes I don't think Palin is qualified to be VP at the same time I don't see that Obama as especially qualified to be president. |

What are his reasons? And are any of them reasonable or can any of them explain why she should be the vice president? McCain hasn't made one clear point as to why she should be a heartbeat away (a 72 year old heartbeat at that!) from being the President of the United States. And answering serious questions with garbage like she was "thrust" into this position does nothing to erase any of those doubts, fears and concerns about her. In fact it cements just how unprepared and undeserving she (edit: and by extension he himself!) is of that office.
Is Obama qualified to be president? Well, only time will really tell on that, but I can say that the way he's handled himself during this campaign is showing me he's more together, composed and, I dare say it, honest, than McCain and Palin are, and that goes very far in my eyes. |

Right on, canuckistan. Since when did we start handicapping a presidential candidate? "It's not his fault he..." doesn't cut if for the highest office in the land. Maybe he can't type, but he can still read and learn...can't he? |

Canuckistan,
I wouldn't get too upset about Palin. Six months from now people are going to have a hard time remembering her name. |

I guess it all depends on the importance the individual attaches to being able to use a *basic* tool of technology these days, and how stubbornly disconnected and defiantly incurious they want to remain.
To me it displays a glaring intellectual laziness which in this day and age is completely unacceptable for the President of the United States --birthplace of so many of these technologies! |
McCain was talented enough to fly a plane. Which is tougher email or flying ?

Joo, Let's take a look at that. I know a little about flying. I can fly a plane. Mom can fly a plane. My father was a fighter pilot--my brother fixes them. We grew up aviatin'. Flying is not rocket science.
For McCain sending an email apparently is--I've already pointed out the voice-activated technology for a quadriplegic to run a computer has existed since 1988.
And don't give me ridiculous BS like "well then why doesn't Obama fly?" I'll answer that for you anyways.
He was busy at Columbia and Harvard Law school cracking the books and taking his education seriously.
McCain didn't even fly well (let alone study). Had a knack for stalling--and crashing--4 times--which isn't counting being shot down. Repeatedly stalling/crashing aircraft takes a a good deal of incompetence, recklessness, or irresponsibility--take your pick.
One crash occurred on the way back from the Army/Navy game. That one makes me laugh--flying and being hungover like a rat doesn't mix particularly well. You're supposed to wait and let the effects clear your system.
Along with spending his free time drinking/gambling in Monte Carlo at the casinos, he managed to clip power lines over Spain. "Flying too low". Maybe he should have looked at his maps. That's what good pilots do since power lines are kind of a 'significant hazard' for aircraft. That was crash #2.
Now if you're anywhere familiar with the Air Force and crashing millions of $ worth of their aircraft, you'd know that 90% of the time you get your wings taken away on the 1st crash and you get hung out to dry.
But since daddy was a Naval bigwig his incompetent 4-crash flying skills were continually enabled (beyond the pale as far as the Air Force goes!) and pretty much irrevocable.
This is the kind of guy you get when he NEVER has to deal with the consequences of his recklessness.
