Anyone have suggestions for a place that is foreigner-friendly to buy Korean company shares in Seoul?

Are you guys friggin nuts? Why not put all your money on the roulette wheel at your nearest casino. It will give you better odds than the market for years to come.

The Korean market is known for it's volatility and Korean brokers are lying thieving people that will take you for all you've got and smile at you while they do it. Koreans say screw consumer protection regulations and believe the ends justify the means. Shady backroom deals are common here as is bribery.

Also, Korea has a notoriously huge problem with transparency in accounting and finances.

This is the LAST place in Asia to invest with confidence.

Hong Kong NOT Korea is the HUB of Asia.

Korea is the hubcap of Asia.

i use woori investment and security bank. They have an english language website and the commission is very cheap. I already had a woori regular bank account so it was relatively easy to set up. You would definately need a korean friend to help you though.

I wonder if they are a different format from Shinhan. I asked there, and they can supply access to mutual funds, but not individual stocks (they mentioned "in the case of foreigners")
