The MLB team treated the world baseball classic as a joke. They didn't take it seriously. The team was patched together and there was no continuity in anything they did(other than play bad baseball). Korea, on the other hand, took it seriously. As in national pride depended upon it. Plus the Korean team trained together and had more experience in being a cohesive unit rather than the US team. Honestly, if the US has been organized and had taken it seriously and had trained together, do you really think the Bad News Bears(ie Korean team) would have had a chance? They'd've gotten smoked.

Did you also notice how nobody in the US cared or cares now about the world baseball classic? It just isn't important and nobody really cares how the team does. Meanwhile, Koreans go bonkers if they win and the players get out of doing their military service. Big difference in what is deemed important in the US v. what's important in kimchiland

Look at the Koreans who have come to the US to play MLB. Hee Sop Choi, Chan Ho Park, Jae Seo, etc. Serviceable, but not gold medal quality.

I was at the Doosan/Samsung game and the closer hit 93 on the radar gun.

Korea shut down their league so they could send their best players. Other countries didn't. That's why they won.

I find it funny that Korea prides itself on these players who went to the major league. Did anyone consider why they came back to Korea? Probably b/c no team wanted them.

MLB: 915 AB, 40 HR, 120 RBI, .240/.349/.437
Never more than 350 AB in a season.

A-AAA: 1794 AB, 98HR, 350 RBI,. 275/.380/.515

Despite the lack of super high quality ball, I'm still going to the Korea series game tonight. So much fun! The quality is not there but I have just as much if not more fun than going to see a game in the show.

The real competition in International baseball is the Cubans; and Korea beat them twice in Beijing. They went 8-0 and it is not their fault the US did not send their best players.

International baseball (just like International basketball) is different than the over-hyped ESPN highlight reel professional leagues in the States. Fundamentals are the keys to winning and the pros from MLB do not do that as well as the Cubans, Japanese or Koreans. If any of those three countries get good pitching, they will beat the US more times than not.
Hence the World Baseball Classic and Olympics.

No, they won't. If they played 162 game seasons, rather than 5 or 7 game series, they would consistently get beat. Not nearly enough walks or power.

The NHL shuts down every time the Winter Olympics comes 'round, but I suspect this is because the teams are composed of so many international players, so their home countries would complain, whereas the MLB is composed of players from just a few (generally Cuba, DR, and the US). We don't see the US putting together a hockey "dream team" because I don't think we have the talent, but sometimes we get a 1980 "miracle."

The NBA put together another dream team after being embarrassed on the world stage. Before the original dream team of '92 (Barcelona, I think), basketball wasn't such a big deal, although it is also a US game. After setting that precedent, it has become more important to Americans to crush the competition.

I wonder if the MLB will ever feel or succumb to pressure from the media or public to put together a dream team to really crush the international baseball competition. After all, they have a big break for the All-Stars--it wouldn't be that hard (I think, I'm not an MLB commissioner) to move the break to coincide with the Olympics every four years.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't this the last time that baseball will even be an Olympic sport?
