If you just want a gold band (wedding ring) you can get them along jongno-ro (by the YWCA) close to Insadong.

If you want something with a diamond, GO TO HONG KONG.

The money you save on the ring will more than pay for your weekend get-a-way.

Cathay has discover HK 2 night packages (air/hotel/transfers) for under 500k won (STILL).

There is a 100% import tariff on precious gems when they come to Korea. Then you add the 10% VAT (sales tax).

The ring you buy in HK for US$1000 will cost you more than $2000 here.

A nice (albeit a bit small) diamond solitaire engagement ring (.4ct, V.V.S.1 grade, brilliant cut, white) with a white gold mount and band will run about $1000.

I usually go to "gemflower" in Jongno for gemstone or gold jewellry, have only bought one diamond there.
