Howard Fineman said: "And, to a degree we cannot measure and may never fully know, because Obama is an African-American---and one with a Swahili name at that."
McCain says racism will barely affect election
TAMPA, Fla. Republican presidential candidate John McCain says racism will play virtually no role when voters head to the polls next Tuesday because it will be trumped by the nation's economic problems.
In a transcript of an interview taped for broadcast Wednesday night on CNN's "Larry King Live," McCain said people will vote "for the best of reasons, not the worst of reasons." He said most people will vote based on who they want to lead the country.
Referring to people who might vote against Democrat Barack Obama because he is black, McCain added: "It would be a tiny, tiny, minority. Because people are hurting too much now. I mean, they're worried about staying in their homes, keeping their jobs."

I wish I agreed more with McCain on this point. Last January, when Obama won Iowa so decisively, I thought 'Wow! At last we really have progressed toward MLK's ideal'. The last couple of weeks leads me to think that I was over-optimistic. Better than before, but not as far as we should have. |

If McCain wins, I predict the Dems will cry "VOTER FRAUD!" and then demand recounts.
Typical Democrat strategy. If a Democrat wins, election is fair. If they lose, then they MUST have been cheated. |
Last statement: true.
They'll do more than cry "fraud" here in Atlanta. Folks all over the 'burbs are preparing, just in case America comes to her senses. |

2000 and 2004 were the first national elections with the machines in use and they seemed to work "fine", except they didn't, and it was a minor news story. |

"Hippie" may have been a bit much. I've read your posts; you don't really strike the reader as a hippie at that.
You didn't address the meat of my post, though. I mean, wasn't that the big deal in recent elections? The idea that one candidate won the popular vote, but the other won the college? The left has been howling about stolen elections for years, now. |

Yes, they have. I'm a supporter of the Electoral College and the Constitutional process.
2000 wasn't stolen. SCOTUS was 5 GOP and 4 Dem when Bush v Gore was decided. Guess what. SCOTUS is partisan.
2004 definitely wasn't stolen. |

If 538 is at all correct, it is such that the repubs can't even steal it now. I've got a pretty penny riding on them being able to steal it. I've gotta go in and cover my positions now, if even possible. |

Where I'm from, it's not a good thing to be called a hippie. I misunderstood my man Kuros and offered apologies for getting onto him like I did. |
